I used to save my rejections. My favorite said, "Its barely music." sic

Mine were mostly about the audio quality and the vocals. Most of them didn't have a single nice thing to say.

I got an angry reply from Henry Rollins once. It was kind of a rejection of things I had said, and resulted in my rejecting him from my heroes list.

Don't know whether or not to be surprised he wrote you back.
All you hardcore kitten hugging, cuddle monsters need to just have some tea and biscuits and get along.

Just jokes.
You can reject my statement if you want.

I remember the best rejection ever came from the first gig I tried to get for my college band - we were a wee indie rock thingy (back when indie rock meant Superchunk and The Spinanes and Velocity Girl and... and... and... YOU KIDS GET OFF MY LAWN!!! ). Anyhow, my little indie rock band went to great pains to record in our college studio on reel to reel, and it was all rather ramshackle (it was an engineer-it-yourself situation), but we were rather proud, and dropped the demo tape off with the booking guy at a local coffee shop with my phone number written on the front in black Sharpie. And when I dropped by a week later to see if he'd listened to the tape, he came out, and said "Look kid - you've got some interesting ideas in there, but I can't book you if you don't tune your guitars. I just can't do it." And we shook hands, and I thanked him, and from that point on, I MADE DAMN WELL SURE THE GUITARS WERE IN TUNE, and whatdya know, we got booked from there on out!

Occasionally, at least.

I basically called him out for selling out when he was the weightlifting "correspondent" on MTV Sports. He was doing more and more TV stuff at the time, though I had no idea how much of a television whore he would later become. I think I called him Janet Jackson at some point. Fun times!

I was only 16 at the time. It felt weird being a fan of someone and busting their balls at the same time, and even weirder getting an angry letter back. #noregrets

From what I've heard, Rollins will write anybody back, or at least that was his policy back in the 90s. Gotta give him credit for that. I think the letterhead was from a hotel in Amsterdam.
