but not so coherently articulated
interesting stuff they're delving into

The Fall is a great show. Really. It and Broadchurch are the best of the recent "atmospheric police procedural" crop.

Both of those shows are great. I am eagerly awaiting the third season of each.

Top of the Lake is also pretty good. And there's The Killing, The Bridge, etc.

All of these owe a lot to TXF and Twin Peaks, too.

Southcliffe gets the feel right but not enough tension, not even forward movement, for me.

Just saw the first two episodes. Liked it, some good stuff in there. The first one seemed a little crammed, if that makes sense, the second was better.

That third episode was really bad. Way too corny/cheesy and poorly written. I liked the kitschy monster episodes of the original series too. That just seemed like a bad comic spoof of the X-FIles. Like an SNL sketch or something.

Third episode best one yet. I figuratively laughed my balls off. Because it was fucking hilarious.

I was a big X-Files fan back in the day. Once Duchovny left the show, I felt that the quality was going downhill and I stopped watching shortly thereafter. It was actually one of the reason I have been very hesitant to get into TV shows, because I feel that eventually they will just let you down.
I wasn't planning on watching the new premier episode, but it was on where I was and I got caught up in it. I really enjoyed the 2nd episode as well. I didn't see last night's episode but I will watch it tonight. I like how Fox is putting full episodes online for free. It makes it much more likely for me to get into a TV show if I can watch it on demand.
It also inspired me to go back and re-watch the series from the beginning on Netflix. I am getting to see some episodes I missed and I'll finally catch those later seasons I skipped, for better or worse.
This show really was great in its heyday. I feel that the first 2 episodes are in that same vein. I hope they keep it up.

Um I just watched this week's episode. I've been really into the new miniseries but damn... not feeling this. Who's idea was it to give Tim Armstrong that many lines?
