Re: What do you do for a living?
Game Technician. I repair, maintain, and troubleshoot slot machines for a small casino. Graveyard shift. Basically, I spend most of my time in a little room watching YouTube videos, listening to music, surfing the internet, and killing time. Three nights a week, I spend an hour following the Drop Team around while they collect money from machines, troubleshooting any issues that might arise from opening and closing the machines.
My force of habit, I am an insect
I have to confess I'm proud as hell of that fact

I work at a kindergarten/preschool. It has been my occupation for the last 7 years. Like it alot. Spend my days drawing, playing games, watching cartoons, building sand castles, hiking and playing noise music with 10+ 5 year olds. Great job.

English department chairdude. I teach, try to avoid administrative bullshit, and research utopianism, musicology, proletarian culture, SF and culturomics. Looks pretty good that by the end of the month I might become Dean of Academics...which is a laugher.
There are some cool gigs here that I am envious of.
EDIT: I sometimes love it. The work is great, but the lifestyle that comes with it is not. I get to basically think/read about stuff all day, and then distill it down to the most interesting and useful bits so that students can get something from it. But not a day goes by where I wonder if all of the work was worth it, or if this makes any kind of difference. I think it does, but...hard to assess.

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents.

I'm a Master Control Operator. Much that same as above. But, in a much smaller market.fever606 wrote:Broadcast Engineer, which means that I (help) keep a major network affiliate in a top-10 market on the air...

I work as a manager for a very large technology retailer. Not a big box chain. A very secret one.

I work for SiriusXM. I'm a technician officially, but in reality I'm a Audio Broadcast Engineer. Our team of three do mixes and masters, live or in post, of over 400 music sessions a year. As well as anything else Audio related like in studio audience events or whatever other things people can come up with. Ever needed to live broadcast the sound of Muse playing ping pong with fans? I'm your man.
I also do occasional work at Jazz at Lincoln Center and some freelance stuff.

I build equipment cases (likely for some of you) for music, photography, guns, etc (anything really). I also build/mod/repair pedals on the side.
I make noise toys under Stomping Stones
