Dude its like...do you give a fuck about the future or are you trying to BLAST????

I saved up for years to go to school for three years, turned out I got paid well enough from the state to study, so I've spent most of those savings on gear. As lame as it is to say, a semi-big portion of my gear is fairly rare (even more so around these parts), so flipping it will get me back what I paid for it, if not sometimes more. I'm not too concerned.

well I doubt I'm representative here,
and while I fantasize about gear more than I buy it, I definitely do not have too little gear. (but maybe still not enough? ha!)
some splurging on food/drink goes on, but most of my money that doesn't go to a HAVE TO gets spent music related.
And clothes are mostly a HAVE TO for me. Last time my mom was visiting me the first thing she said when we picked her up at the train station:
"Well you look scruffy/worn down"
So now we are visiting her for Xmas she treated the kids to clothes shopping. Seems my son and her had a little talk and agreed "it would be so nice if we could get him to go shopping and look nice"

And she actually sent me to the city and my son along as stylist.

Thanks to my family and winter sale I now have a brand new outfit including a new winter-jacket.
It's really nice walking around all new, especially remembering my last fall/winter attire, a combination of a Psycho Cowboy Brand jacket and a Swiss Army coat,
was bought second hand at least 12 years ago.

I generally coast by on lucky flips and lack of expenses, You know? I don't go out much, my beer consumption is generally restricted to a single bottle (of strong stout, so it evens out) and I live in an area where rent prices are low. I generally have enough money left over from rent to buy a pedal or two a month, especially when I flip as often as I do.

Beyond this basically being my life for many years (maybe minus the years I was straight edge), I feel like prolly one of the poorer people on here who spends a good deal. I make rent and my expenses. I don't have a family, nor do I want one. I date two people, I have "joint custody" of my dogs with an ex. I spend my money on myself, my friends, my dogs. Don't really have anything or anyone else to spend it on, and I could easily die tomorrow so seems unfun to not treat myself due the anxieties of an ever-present possible catastrophe. Clothes can be had VERY cheaply, mom always taught me to look for good sales, I grew up knowing how to make clothes last, and food is pretty cheap, my boyfriend works in a grocery store. That said, I maybe don't buy
that much In the way of gear or whatever.
as said in some other thread, need to pay for:
Ezhi and Aka Tape and Moomindrone+, a CT5, and DoS's Misty Cave.
Excited for the Ezhi & Aka Glitcher and Vynil to be available, and then... no clue. Maybe i'll get a cheap guitar, maybe I'll trade up my peavey bass amp for a power amp or a GK800rb, maybe a Boss PS-3 or Raster or another reverb, but I really have almost everything I could conceivably want/need to record this drone/doom/folk/noise project I am tryna do with my friend, and what I don't have, I am hoping he and I can make. Or I will flip gear to get it.
I want to work on building a tone specific rig for the band I am currently in, but that's prolly just an overdrive and a flanger or something. Gotta figure it out.

I see them more as goals that not being pedge will make me fail at.

Well we have some people who spend a lot on gear and keep it, some that spend a lot on gear but sell it (making the actual cost a relatively low constant, once you account for all the flipping, etc.), and some people that don't spend a lot on gear at all. Most of us tend to drift from one to the other depending on where they're at in a sonic sense.

I don't buy lunch or dinner out and I don't drink much alcohol. Only interested in clothes as a functional item rather than a fashion statement. And fuck thinking about finding my retirement.
That leaves a fair bit of money over for teh gearz.

Ok then, looks like I'm in the minority that saves money and likes to spend money on food and other stuff like that too

.
Also, flipping gear is not very efficient for me because it often needs to be international (hence more expensive) but if I could do it easily I guess I'd get more stuff just to try it...

After having bought one pedal in the '90s and like 3 or 4 in the '00s, I enjoy having arrived in some sort of financial comfort zone.
So yeah, I'll keep on buying pedals in 2016, actually I already started with my first Mountainking.
Then there's the Ct5 to pay off.
Otherwise, I'll just wait and see what shows up.

I don't save money to buy gear ever. I don't have any extra to save. LOL. I instead sell shit I've bought when I did have more money and then buy more shit.
