Peter Steele from Type O Negative inspired me to pick up the bass guitar; but to me both he and Lemmy were my idols. Showed me that the bass doesn't have to sit politely with the drums, it could do it's own thing and try to tear the listener's face off, to me that was super cool!
I was devastated to hear of Lemmy's passing, normally I don't give 2 shits over celebrities but Motorhead had such a profound impact on how I view music as a whole that it feels as if part of my soul has been ripped out.
One of my favorite things about Lemmy and Motorhead is that they were not a pretentious band. No satanic image to maintain, nothing about being killers, just booze, rock and roll along with loose women. Something I can identify with.
