Sorry to have left you hanging guys, I hadn't seen this thread. I'm okay and all of my Paris friends are okay.
But guys, losing faith in humanity is what they ant you do. That's the reason one would hit the land of universalism, human rights and republicanism and no other. Be strong and remain excellent to each other.

I feel myself struggling to fully collect how I feel about these attacks, and I have never been a man of many words; so, I have waited a bit before commenting on them.
Some of you may know that I spent a few years through my life in or near Paris. The earliest memories I can recall are of me as a child in France, and I attribute some of my happiest moments of youth to those later years Neuilly. France even left me with a massive scar on my scalp, that likes to throb every so often to remind me of my blood and my soul that still feels connected to the French soil.
My prayers go out to the french people. I hope the dialogue does not turn immediately towards retaliation. Hatred in our hearts is bred not born. Let us not breed more. These attackers were not born violent, they grew so over time. We must find a way to solve the cause, not the result. And creating more pain is not that solution. Paris is the city of love, let’s not let this change that.
My heart goes out to every one involved.
Pray for Paris.
I wrote a big essay earlier to try and collect myself, but I managed to condense that into my finest angsty poetry
As I grow old in mind and age
I fear no more the loss of soul
No longer filled with hate and rage
But overcome with strife for all
To each involved these tears I shed
For hate in hearts is bred not born
Nothing is cleansed in pools of red
Pledge not revenge for those we mourn
To all who seek to breed more war
To all who speak the need for gore
Do not let hate become a spore
I pray for you to live for more

Yeah, these assholes targeted people who were basically having fun and living life as it's supposed to be lived, i.e. enjoying it. Concert, bars, sports events. So the most important thing is to keep living as normal human beings and to keep enjoying life.
Also, not to offend anyone but what is needed is not really prayers. Less religion would be a good thing (France was probably targeted because we have a history of being very "laïc", not sure how to translate that in English, basically considering religion as a purely private thing that should not have a direct influence on society).
I can't find a way to embed instagram stuff but Joan Sfar said it more eloquently :

What kind of bullshit society are we living in to drive people to do this shit?
Hope everyone here is ok, and that their friend and family made it.

Religion is a hell of a drug.
Well, yes, but in that case you'd have to ask why people are "od'ing on it". Radical views and actions is a symptom, not the disease.

Thumbs up for the separation of churches and state in France, Osc!
State of emergency was declared last night. Three days of national mourning next week too.
And can't agree more with everything Eivind said. And David, I get the feeling.

Very much agree with Elvind.
And it is important to remember prayers are not just a religious thing. Prayer is a concise and impactful way of expressing an earnest hope or wish. The source of the word is precarious, which simply means obtained by an earnest or humble request.
It is simply an expression of hope for something. Especially in a generation of youth that is vastly more atheist than any before. Let's not start more fights with people who are simply expressing their support.

Yeah, I was not trying to be a dick or anything. Support in situations like these is always good.

Glad to hear you and your loved ones are safe d'arcy!
Still numb over this...the pit in my stomach has become a knot. I'm venting through writing.
Be good to everyone, everybody. I don't care what your religion is, what color your skin is or what country your from. Your all my brothers and sisters and I love every single last one of ya. Be excellent and hug your families extra hard today.

Ok. The amount of bullshit I've been hearing today is itching me real bad.
This is the first article of our Constitution, and in my opinion the reason la Patrie Républicaine was targeted yesterday: "France shall be an indivisible, secular, democratic and social Republic. It shall ensure the equality of all citizens before the law, without distinction of origin, race or religion. It shall respect all beliefs. It shall be organised on a decentralised basis. Statutes shall promote equal access by women and men to elective offices and posts as well as to professional and social positions."
This is reason enough for any obscurantist to target France. I'd like people to keep their "clash of the civilizations" and "muslim invasion" BS to the sorry back of their fucked up mind.
