USWM: rig is everything. Instruments to amps, ancillary noisemakers, whatever you need to get the job done.
Also, that is a good point about the argument for categories, however I am wondering whether or not ILF will care much about that if someone can nail it like skully does with two tiny combos and a small board crammed with rad on toast.
If we need to have more discussion about categories, let's do that.
I want to get this right.

I'm glad rigs of ILF has integrated the d20 system.

I mean, we'll make improvement where relevant, but as soon as we get a solid and fair system nutted I think we'll see a great competition.
These mechanics will be fun, hopefully not arbitrary, because it would be awesome to have the competition vote-based as well as stats-based, some mix of the two, but the real logistics will lie in enticing prizes to the table and the timing of the comp.
I'd love to see it roll off BILF, but I think that may be stretching the community a bit.

so… you are saying because I have two double basses and… 5 muffs that they are part of my rig? where is this line…?

This is why I think we need categories, personally.
Gigging/touring guys will want to include more than one guit in a rig if its a workhorse, others, like myself only own one electric guitar/bass.
I think including things like an extra synth/drone generator/theramin/whatever is acceptable as I know there are a lot of one-man/lady shows that cannot do what they do without that stuff.
However, gor has a point in that it will kind of suck if all the doombros just line up their megawatt rigs and have a dick measuring contest, and all the electronica guys nerd the fuck out in other corner abour euroracks.
So, we need some middle ground.
I don't think anyone here will think 5 muffs is a problem.
Isn't that just another day at ILF?

yes but I don't consider more than one of them as actually part of one of my rigs

That's a lifestyle choice you're gonna have to make a call on, brother.

I think there needs to be some sort of "categories" or "system" or "schematic" because if its just based on size or pure wonder than SLK or whiskey_face will post their rooms/walls and be done with it.
And what will constitute a rig: amp/cab or amp/cab/pedalboard/instrument(s)?
The thing is, with the way the character abilities are devised i don't think they'll necessarily slay everyone with their rigs, just as a fighter won't always win. They'll have a lot of strength, and some wisdom likely, but penalties for dexterity And intelligence.
I think any rig that is pretty extreme, like MEC or Rfurt or whiskey - they fall into natural "hero" types - should be able to do well. It'll come down to how we design the fight mechanics and maybe a few of the more unpredictable variables like charisma.
I'm really intrigued to see how sort of "jack of all trades" rigs will fare though. I could be boning myself with this system I think...

Haha!
If I were entering myself, that AOR would own under "jack of all trades".
Why bone just yourself when there are so many bonable candidates available here?

So since we are just spitballing, I am just thinking out loud here, so are we going to use a voting system and people use Goroth's metrics as a guideline, just use Goroth's metric or do a little of both, like Goroth unbiasedly tallies up points based on his system than it goes to a vote where people can earn more points which will add to their total & when the voting is over the total overall points are reveled.
While I think the people of ILF would look past sheer size of a rig in judgement, I think instead of a total free for all so sort of tiers need to be established so its not total anarchy. This is a little tricky since what do we base it on since a rig consists of so much? I mean do we do it by the amount of instruments, size of board or size of amp/cab? I think the amp/cab size is what really would separate into the different categories.
I am thinking (going off the BILF categories)
Small: combos or rigs smaller than "Normal" definition
Normal: half or full stacks (2x15, 4x10, 4x12, 4x15, 6x10, 6x12, 8x10, 8x12)
Large: rigs of doom - rigs larger than "Normal" definition
Not sure if the majority would fall into the "Normal" section or not so my thoughts might need ironing out.

Total Number of Knobs between Amps, Pedals and Instrument(s) ?
Edit: fuck, those capitals are such a dead give-away of my german-ness.
