The thing is--that list is a total splooge--the top of my head sliced, diced and pureed into a smoothy. There IS a ton of good shit up in there, and I didn't think it through at all. And there is still so much more. I know you know. The 8Ts were such an abyssmally horrible time, and that's what drove the music I thought then, and still think now, was great. It made that music necessary and crucial. There was no other way of getting that poison out of your system.

And besides the political, social, economic poison? Musical poison!

Bryan Fucking Adams! Night Ranger, Quarterflash, Flashdance, a fucking fleet of Yacht Rock....andonandon. There's a reason for the song "Don Henley Must Die," and it ain't Phil Collins. Huey Lewis and the News would make anyone want to pick up an ax an wield it against their fellow man, and that's before he won that laughable fucking plagiarism suit.

There were so many that wanted to wear their sunglasses at night and drink all of the motherfucking koolaid right down to the bottom of their Perfect Strangers sippy cup.

Bah. I know you know man-I saw your list. :)*

His Purpleness pretty much ruled the 80s. Seriously, between Dirty Mind ('80) and Graffiti Bridge ('90), there's some special fucking music.

Fugazi
Clash
Ramones
Dead Kennedy's, for sure
Dag Nasty
Minor Threat
The Melvins!!!!!
Black Flag
Fucking Dio!
Swans
DNA
Mars
Run DMC
Beastie Boys
Some moments from the Dead, when they weren't too strung out on coke or heroin.
Not what they became, but early U2 was actually inspired by more than stage craft, money and ambition.

Sign O' The Times is so fucking good.

The first four albums, Joshua Tree and before it, are some of the best post-punk-tinged rock you're going to find. I don't really tell people I like U2 because, well, that's a pretty loaded thing to say at this point. But I like Boy, War, October, and JT so, so much.

'Sign' is probably his best. I really like those sleepers after Purple Rain - Parade and Around the World in a Day.

I don't think black flag or dio or slayer or bathory or anything really count as "rock bands" from the 80s.

I was definitely thinking this but they were so enthusiastic! LOL. I wasn't really aiming for metal or punk because by the '80s those were their own things. But you know. "Rock" means different things to different people.

I am no fan of GNR, but you can't fault them on Appetite for Destruction. I've heard it too many times for it to be anything but white noise at this point. But it really inspired a lot of musicians.

Plus "Civil War" is so epic
Look at your young men dying
Look at your women crying
Look at your young men dying
The way it always was before...
LOOK AT THEM DYING MUDFUZZ

HAVE SOME GOL' DANG RESPECT

It means different things to different states and provinces, FYI. Creepy means the same thing across the board though :idk:
