Nailed it.
It just makes me feel right; more connected to what I'm doing. Puts a smile on my face every time.
I probably loved fuzz before, but I could not have told you...
Then I went to a Bevis Frond concert and noticed, that he always stepped on ... something...
before the guitar went

and put a smile on my face, wings sprouting from my heart...
I had to find out...
It was an oooold Big Muff
and it clicked "Oh, I love FUZZZZZ!"
So I went and bought a new Russian BM and loved it for quite a while. Until it was somehow too tame.
And a door opened into a whole world of fuzzes, and I stepped through that door full of love.
And utterly clueless.
So here I am beginning to explore, hoping to understand

Jack Bruce. I blame Jack Bruce, because when I first got into playing and I discovered that Cream existed, I loved to listen to their live recordings. There was Jack, abusing those Marshalls in his unholy competition with Clapton, and using his on-board fuzz circuit to make some of the most glorious bass tones I have ever heard.
I love that fuzz has so much feeling and character to it. There are as many different fuzz tones as there are beautiful women - all look/sound good in their own way, its so hard to pick just one.

Generic bass tones do nothing for me, other than put me to sleep. Give me something with some style.
I also love how fuzz on a bass gives it commanding authority over a mix in a band. You can lay back on it and have this sort of subtle fuzz blanket that wraps everyone up, or you can punch out and smack the shit out of everyone listening, because fuzz on bass is way more mean than fuzz on guitar.
So those are some of my reasons.

Fuzz just makes me feel like I'm crushing my enemies, having them driven before me, and hearing the lamentation of their women.

My first pedal was a Big Muff. It was loud, it pissed my mom off every time I used it, and it sounded rad as fuck on my cheap ass squier and GK combo. I was maybe 14 and fell in love.
Fuzz I've had the longest: Pickle Pie B. Fuzz that I'm currently enjoying the most: 4545. Fuzz I wish I had:
AONYS
Jwar, get the fuck off the internet and make it already!

In the spirit of contribution:
I played classical guitar for years. When I got an electric guitar I didn't know pedals were a thing, I just thought that fuzz sound was the result of just playing really loud.
In the second band I played in the other guitarist came to the second rehersal with an old suitcase filled with pedlols. I was mesmerized at the sight of all the different shapes and knobs and colors. Then he hooked it up and I literally had to sit down and collect myself. I was blown away. I went home and did some research on the matter and discovered that my favourite bands used pedals (looking back, my ignorance was pretty adorable), and the very next day I picked up a Boss Blues Driver, because that's what Isaac Brock used, and I fucking loved and still do love Modest Mouse. Fast forward two days and I picked up a DD-20. And I've been hooked since.
As far as fuzz pedals go, I think my first one was the W&C BoW. I would love to try it again now, older and wiser.

Me too! I accidentally recorded myself clean the other day and man did I sound shitty.
For me I was in year 4 of working in Best Buy's musical instrument department and they started out clearing the pedals and selling them super cheap (you all would kill me if you knew some of the deals I got). I saw the Big Muff Pi and thought "what the heck, it's less than a video game" took it home and.... MIND FUCKIN' BLOWN!!! Just cracked like an egg tossed to the surface of the sun! The odd thing was I've played the muff model on Line 6 gear, but it wasn't the same as the actual box.
Purchased alot of fuzz boxes and dirt through the years and my favorite keeps changing, though I will always have an undying love for muff.
Recently I've gotten into "goosing" fuzz by plugging a dirt box into it and hearing the ensuing sonic mayhem. In the past couple of weeks I've shoved a Nano POG into the Little Big Muff Pi and IT'S BEEN GLORIOUS!!!! Will be posting a video on my More Gear Than Talent channel...

When I was young I always thought guitars were meant to sound distorted. I guess I just identified with that sound, with "Spirit in the Sky" and "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" being my first notable fuzz memories. Then I got into playing bass and wanted dirty sounds. I got an overdrive first and thought "this is cool, but I want more." So I bought an Aenima with an oscillation mod amd ive been falling down the pedal hole ever since.
I never should have sold that Aenima, even though it was unreliable; the way it transfered from decay into oscillating was so fucking cool.
Favorite fuzzes (no order):
Aenima
Eau Claire Thunder
Tone Machine
TAFM
(not counting the mini)
& I dont own any of those anymore what the fuck is wrong with me
