If you want to create random triggers get a S&H and route it to a comparator. The comparator will send out a +5v or whatever signal when the S&H is above the threshold. The S&H is pseudo-random. Another way to do it is to FM a LFO and run that to a slope detector.
Speaking of delays with triggers, there were a number of rack units that you could send a midi command and they would do like 2 or 3 sec. of sampling. I believe the Quadraverb+ was one of them. Another midi command for playback, and I think there was cc control over speed.

Yea, I saw a bunch of those racks when I was looking around for more pedals with this. Good to know that they actually work like that. Awesome.
I am thinking about modding one of these sampler pedals with a S&H cicuit to get some psuedo-random stuff like you said. I dunno, those DFX91s seems like a good platform to start off of.

I'm sorry, me no speak modular.

Or are you talking about combining circuits in a hammond box guitar pedal stylee?
Either way, I'm certain that would create some great sounds into a delay trigger in....
I think the Strymeline will accept a midi command to re-start a loop; with short enough loops that could be very, very cool.
Currently my major delay wants have become whatever D Rainger and Mysterious J come up with and an RSD-10. I'll leave the DIYing to my betters like you, lordgalvar and doommeow amongst others....

Oh, let us know how glitchy you can get that RSD-10. I messed with the RRV-10 but flipped it pretty quick...not really a place for it.

I thought about this, but does the RTG also randomize rhythm to some extent? Or are you thinking that into some kind of pitch to voltage unit? I'm not really sophisticated enough to understand how that would work out?
lordgalvar-definitely checking the RSD-10 pretty closely. Recently scored a RPS-10 and that one is pure win.

You're right. RTG wouldn't work. But would the 8-step? It's got expression out and a random direction mode... That would give you the option of various preprogrammed rhythms as well as random stuff. Maybe.
8-Step doesn't do it. The steps are always the same length apart. It also didn't trigger the DSD when I tried so having one slider up and setting it to random didn't do anything.

Did you try putting a boost between the 8-Step and the DSD? Maybe the CV signal isn't loud enough? Supposedly it can be triggered with a boosted mic, so maybe something that isn't a cv source, but a really loud sequence would work better? I know when I would do it, I would have to sample it in rec mod and then switch to rec/play mode which made it more reliable? I dunno.

I am going to be trying to figure out a way to externally trigger a DFX94 now. Here goes nothing. I'll let you all know what I find out.

^Luck.
If you return alive and successful, I will be pestering you with questions, b/c I haz DFX-94 inthemail!

I've got some designs worked out. I when I get my DFX94 in, I'll check to see if they will work, then order parts, then test it all out for ya. I think it could be neat?

No, that was more complicated than I was willing to get. I don't want something as fiddly as that.

That is kinda what I meant before about having to carry around too much stuff to make it worth it (for me). I had a trigger pedal board, which had like 4 or 5 pedals when I usually only run 4 or 5 pedals total.

8 step should work.
The LFO out of the goatkeeper could also work - i can try this with a DSD-2.
