So, the trip is in one week now, I've planned the cities we'll visit and the nice spot you guys have recommended, but couchsurfers are hard to find !
So far no one in Glasgow, Edimburgh, or Fort Williams answered me :/

Bumping this b/c I'll be in Scotland for like a week at the end of the month/start of November. Want to poke around the bits where some of my family is from (i.e. Edinburgh and Balloch, respectively) but I actually have no plans per say beyond hanging out with the lady friend (who's booked us a hotel in Edb, I believe).
Anyone have anything to add? No car, unfortunately, as I can't drive legally and she can't drive period (not in a sexist way in a "literally doesn't drive" way). Also if anyone wants to grab a beer or several and make fun of me for being 'Murican I'm always down for that, too

Take cabs or walk. Everything is so easy to get to, you shouldn't have an issue.
Get fish and chips for sure, try haggis, try the local beer, do not wear any soccer team colors (I'm not joking) and enjoy the locals. They are fucking great man.
Ugh. I miss Scotland so bad. It's been 10 years since I went. I want to go back...

Spent a week in Glasgow and the Orkneys last month. Can't recommend anything in Edinburgh, but general advice - Indian food, cider, single malt, fish'n'chips. If you make it north to the national park, I'd stop at the Dalwhinnie distillery and pick up a bottle of the 25y/o.

These two things strike me as being contrary in nature
Sidenote I'll also be in Leeds for Damnation Fest and in London until that Monday if anyone wants to grab a beer and make fun of me in either of those places, too.

If you do go to a chip shop, ask for a deep fried Mars Bar. If they haven't been banned that is. So good. If you are ever in London let me know

No. He's the best. He takes all the shit thrown at him like a champ and sometimes mumble things about his dual citizenship and how he totally gets it because he's not that American but you can tell him to shut up with his red pick up trucks and bald eagles.
Damn, I miss you D.o.S
But still, fuck you.

I just try not to be one of
those people when I travel since, you know, it's embarrassing to someone like me that has to share a global identity with 'em.
And I'm sure they say the same thing about me.

Will do! I think I might only be around for like half a day before I fly back, so it might be difficult to meet up on this go-around. Will be back before too long, though.
