In Pyschedelic Furs' All of the Law "and they're taking it down / written in silver" I've always taken to be about the old silver emulsion camera film, now a throw back.
Jim Croce's Operator is so heartbreaking and confusing that way.

oh my god yes, this is absolutely ruinous now, like the existence of cell phones is almost a kind of catch 22 for storytelling.
like i can't fucking stand it on the show Bates Motel when young angsty Norman hears that same damn text sound we hear IRL and reaches for his iPhone..
but at the same time it's weird when movies and shows just decide to conveniently ignore the existence of cell phone technology, putting suspension of disbelief at risk.
I really like the movie The Ring. Especially in retrospect as it was totally a time capsule for late-90's/early 2000's
when VCRs, CRT TVs, and Regular Telephones were still much more widely common. It had already started to turn but only subtly at that time.
Another good example of this is Scream. 1997 i think it was. "What are you boys doing with a cellular phone?" "We cloned the cellular!" etc.
Maybe i'll make a shirt depicting the scene where Stu gets his head crushed by that big ass blue-screened Tv. As like, a statement... man...
