jobwise ...do do you have any trade skills/ or other qualifications?

stuff can be expensive, but we pay for our high standard of living.
any idea where about is australia you a looking at?
rents are high and prices of property are also high, but interest rates have been low for a while.

music gear, or tickets to see overseas bands...bend over and open up your wallet.
We get taxed to pay for our high standard of living, which the powers that be then insist on not spending and putting into "future funds".
Stuff is more expensive because living on an island in the pacific means all the mafioso mentality you get with small town bureaucracy is allowed to go apeshit and penetrate every tier of governance, and then the island retailers take their cut.
Honestly, I think our high standard of living is also due to our geographic isolation. The only benefit about being a pain in the arse to get to is that disease and broke ass communist regimes tend to not make it across the ocean. So we don't know famine, plague, or war.
Which is awesome, but fucked if there aren't some overly privileged wankers these days as a result.

Sorry, didn't mean to shit all over your post man.
I agree with you about people, and the beauty of the land.
I think our economy and political climate is starting to take its toll on our culture/lifestyle, though.
That's why I have the shits.

we have had it lucky here thou ...and ive been so grateful/priviledge to call Australia my home for the majority of my life.

the culture (imo) is definitely one of easy going, have a laugh/take the piss out of your mates, but also be able to shrub it off. some people dont "get" that, so we come across as crude or arrogant (particular when aussies travel)

also...this...

Like I said, I'm mainly just curious. I don't have training in anything lucrative  But that's another story. If I get to the point of seriously considering it, I'll take a trip or two to visit first. But even that wouldn't be for a long while. Long enough to gain some lucrative skills.......

It's good. I've spent a bunch of time in the US. It's super chilled by comparison.
It isn't cheap, but haters here don't factor on tax and tips bumping up the list price on stuff in the US.
Way less social issues like homelessness etc. Despite a drive towards destroying our health care, it's still mostly free here for non elective stuff (new boobs?)

Come'n visit!

By non elective surgery I expect you mean surgeries that will keep you alive, yes? Because you aren't getting any cosmetic surgery covered under public.
And on that point, yeah, it may be free, but there's a fair chance you will die on the waiting list or suffer secondary and tertiary complications before you get seen to.

And no, it isn't as dire as healthcare in the US, but it was never as bad as it is now and quite frankly its disgusting that they've let it go as far as it has, like that is acceptable, given how much fucking tax we pay.

Sorry. The dwindling state of healthcare gets me really fucking fired up.
