Going with the minority and agreeing that Gerard has a good voice. They can be a bit gimmicky. Okay, a lot gimmicky, but Black Parade was good, and I still enjoy it.
Guilty pleasure? Maybe.

@osbornkt it's over. Gerard Way is the fucking coolest person ever. He is an angel.

You sing to MCR in the car, don't lie.

I'm listening to and singing along to Teenage Fanclub right now while I cook dinner.

I just got into hardcore and 'emo' around 1994 dude, I just can't hang with this stuff. It sounds like nu metal whining about girls instead of the dark carnival or whatever to me.

I'm sure someone in their 40s feels the same about the mid 90s ebullition records garbage I love too.

Art is subjective brah. There are peeps like you, me and a few other who love this shit, and that cool. And their are peeps who don't like this and like the more out there stuff and that's cool too.

Music is music, it shouldn't be something you fight over. It's something you should enjoy, not an excuse to debate the superiority of other genres and bands over other genres and band.

It's also an argument that shouldn't even be on this form. Ever.

Too much anger gets stirred up and I don't wanna fight with my fuzz bros.
Nobody in their right mind argues that their opinion is "better" as there's no accounting for taste.
Room for dissent and disagreement is healthy and yang to the yin; otherwise you get campy cult TGP-type threads of nothing but fanboys slurping their idols.
Notice how nobody here has been trashing [Way] along the lines of "no talent" "poseur" etc. I don't see any haters here.

Since the introduction/evolution of modern music, listeners have been comparing, contrasting and critiquing it.
Getting offended or angry over something someone else says, about anything subjective that you like (or don't like) is beyond immature.

That reminds me...

I will respond to the necro-bump. As tactfully as I can, too. :thumb:

MCR always fell into the "music Hot Topic kids listen to" category. I am of the stance that if you write more than two songs on one record about your girlfriend, lack thereof, or the times you miss about so and so and her pretty eyes, that you don't have much to say, least of all about yourself. I like messages that aid the listener in some way or entertain. This is not to say that love songs define bad music to me, just that the writer doesn't have much to talk about. Now about the voice, which I also must say that I don't care for.

A: it's possible he physically can't sing in another register (if that's the correct term) in which case we'll have to take his singing for what it is and move on with our lives. <<< That's not intended to be insulting or sarcastic by the way.

B: Most "whiny" voices are sung with a closed-throat, which IMO sounds bad and is probably bad for your throat. I compare whiny voice to the "goat-voice" of Scott Stapp and most grunge bands, and also the barnyard animal voice of Dave Matthews. The reason I make the comparison is because all of those voices can be done by anyone. Just like singing in a country accent can be done by anyone.

C: There are high-pitched vocalists who clearly aren't doing the whiny, closed-throat thing, like Brian Aubert, Claudio Sanchez, and others..... like a certain bald-headed ex-cool musician a-hole with the initials "B.C."

Take these comments with a grain of salt because I haven't taken the time to listen to an hour of Way's singing, only some of the clips in the thread. I think people listen to the music they do for different reasons, and that's fine.

OK seriously just listened and it sounds like something my 9 year old daughter would listen to on the Disney Channel. Awful. Just awful. Of course that's my opinion, but meh er. That's all I have to say. Meh er
