I'm thinking this is a factor that should have gone into doomagraphics. There does seem to be a K9 preference here, where most music forums seem to be dominated by cats.

Meow. This is Coco (we didn't name him the shelter did, I pretend its short for COnan the COnquerer) we rescued him from a shelter group about 3 months back after we lost our last cat shortly after my daughter was born. Our oldest daughter really really wanted another cat and i missed having one around and ont he first day we found this crazy lil guy and it was love at first sight. He's loving and affectionate, yet very playful. He's got a thing for attacking ankles and feet though that I gotta curb. When we first got him he weighed maybe 3 lbs and would barely eat at the shelter, now he eats like a freakin champ and has easily doubled his weight.

The shelter had named our Boxer mastiff mix "Peony" Even my wife was like -Oh hell no. Her name is now Mocha or more often Mo. Some times the wife just calls her " Fat Dog"

Peony?!?! good call.... We questioned renaming him but decided he's all ready three so we might as well keep his name. Even though he doesn't seem to recognize it hahaha

That story about Pancho is really rad.
Your lady's cat looks like it would probably be the boss of the dogs.
The new dog looks like a sweetie

agreed. if rescuing works for your situation, it's such an awesome thing to do. there's so many amazing deserving animals out there that really need it.

the new dog actually came from the rescue with the name "princess". we immediately knew there was no way we would have any pet named that, and it totally doesn't fit this dog. we've been calling her biscuit, which seems much better to me. and everyone we've told actually.

Our cat we got from the shelter was something like Lidia or something. Just something like a normal female name. Wife immediately renamed her to Emma Jane. Emma for short. Princess fatpants for long.
Seems the shelters just have some derp names they pick but I know it's not like they are holding them for long.

we fostered a pit mix that was named "toya jane" at the shelter.
we named her rosalita (for springsteen and because rose tyler -- watching lots of dr. who at the time) but we called her rosie or ro po.
when she went back to the shelter after we had her we let them know that they should call her rosie and that she looked good in pink (she had brown eyes and was brindle so they hard a hard time getting her out of the shelter)
