Only time it would be relevant for me is if it's an organization I'm affiliated with (and there are very few), etc.

Also so many symbols have been re-appropriated or have multiple interpretations that it's a case of "ask first" before assuming even then.

TL;DR does it affect me? If not, move on.

My wife is into a lot of luciferian witchcraft stuff, Michael Ford
What I have read of it reminds me of Crowley with "dark" language thrown in, but again Do what thou wilt. It works for her and I love her just the way she is.

I'm in the God = AllThatIs/Nature branch of things.
Also, for me The Occult = Knowledge; a form of knowledge that is not apparent through the outside senses (vision, smell, taste..etc.) but more through the inward senses (emotions).

And the occult always fascinated me. Parted with religions as a kid, but was always a 'believer'. I see all the various philosophies as different belief systems. As gorgoth said, "It's all just a bunch of different ways of dealing with existential uncertainty."

Vedic knowledge bros, if you want the real stuff, the most hardcore scientists of all presently recorded times.
Tesla practiced Vedic breathing techniques for crying out loud  You really have to do it to understand, similar effect to psychedelics; only you don't have to rely on them to keep the expanded awareness, you just breathe.
The Rishis (scientist-poets) went into deep meditation and spontaneously recited truth, which was then written down in the Vedas as verses.
And considering the vast amount of scientific knowledge they possessed (or knowledge possessed them :D) 'back in the day', I find them the most noteworthy of all the occult workings I encountered.

Which reminds me of another interesting thing to note; Nassim Haramein's movie "Black Whole", where he explains the concept of miniature black wholes that exist in the center of each atom in existence. Talk about allconsuming darkness  Yaaaay, darkneeeesss
The experimental numbers check out for his theory, and he even goes into sacred geometry with it. Really cool stuff.

I also love this guy, very very much (albeit he did misinterpret the 'god particle' label, but the rest is spot on)

Posted this cuz 'allconsuming darkness'.

Also I've been discovering this for the past few months; do you find that Law of Attraction bears many resemblances to the law of Karma? The more I've been finding out about how Karma works (the mechanics, not the specifics) the more it seems similar to Law of Attraction; i.e. All is of your own doing.

Those are very long elaborations on why I've been reading a lot more about Hinduism lately. Well, Vama Marga Tantra, more specifically. But the Hindu model of the universe, consciousness, and the "self" is so fucking awesome. The Five Koshas are pretty interesting. If you feel crappy, look at how your body feels.... The body affects the feelings, which affect the mind, which affect your judgment.... and so on. I haven't read a ton of Hindu/Vedic scripts on Karma, but I've always understood it to mean "cause and affect." Once it gets into the territory of "you fucked up in your last life so that's why you were born in a ghetto" I turn away. The class system and treatment of women and so on is just stupid. Thus, I turn to the Left Hand Tantra side of things. ALL is Brahman. Even the dirty stuff :p

I do my best to avoid holding firm beliefs. I'm more of the school that true knowledge is unobtainable, but playing with concepts in the subjective realm can have a pretty deep impact. I'm probably missing the mark, but I might graze the surface somewhere here.

Been into Discordianism for the last few years. Some of it is mind blowing. Some of it is just goofy. I dig the philosophical side. I know it's what chaos magic grew out of, but I haven't gone too far down that path.

The Process Church of Final Judgment had some cool writings. They taught that Satan, Lucifer, and Jehovah were separate archetypal aspects of the whole, which they called Christ. The actual organization was a horrible cult that completely used it's members though.

Aldous Huxley's The Perennial Philiosophy has been an incredible source of inspiration. He finds the common ground between the mystic sects of major religions (Zen, Taoism, Sufism, Christian Mysticism, etc) and ties them together quite nicely.

Grant Morrison's Invisibles and Alan Moore's Promethea have been a recent crash course in things like Sigils, Tarot, and Kabbalah for me. The symbolic, interpretive way they've been presented there gave me a wildly different perspective than the new age magical fortune-telling type junk I've been pointed to before. Now I'm curious to read a little farther.

I dig conceptual ideas for altering the unconscious like Antonin Artaud's Theatre of Cruelty, and William S. Burroughs' Electronic Revolution.

In practice, psychonautics is probably the closest i get to occultism.

If I want to learn about Satanism and the Occult what books should I buy? Also I've seen many books called the "Necronomicon" are these real books, as in religious/magick texts?

Satanism as it's practiced isn't "Occult" per se - Laveyan Satanism is scary atheism.

Necronomicon is a fake book made up of composite material to capitalize on the name.

What exactly are you looking to do/learn/whatever?

Simply put: I want to learn what it's all about. I was thinking about getting a Satanic Bible for starters. Overall I'm looking for an understanding of Satanism and what it actually is as opposed to what is propagated by the church, :barf:

What is this then?
