I thought the OP was making a subtle jab with regards to how corporations in general are willing to do anything to make a buck, even sinking so low as to supplant a tragedy where human lives were lost, to sell more goods. Profit over people etc.

Yes but I'm on the side of the evil Corps. I guess... All during WWII it was Patriotic for Companies to use their logos and mascots to rally for the cause, now it's a bad thing and they are evil... I was wondering when we became so uptight that a Spaghetti-o with a Flag causes Americans loose their minds???

bigchiefbc wrote:...We could have easily broken the Japanese will by bombing military targets. We deliberately chose to bomb a large population center full of civilians. And we did the same thing in Dresden, albeit with non-nuclear weapons in that case. I'm not defending Japan at all, they preemptively attacked the US and deserved a very severe beatdown. But let's not sugarcoat shit here, we specifically went after civilians, and the Japanese specifically didn't.
Not sure if we could have broken the Japanese with the state we were in at that part of the war, but to continue the trend of not sugarcoating shit, we declared war on Japan, they didn't. They were promising peace while their ships were en route. The Japanese did the equivalent of giving us a hug, while promising peace and then stabbing us in the back, we did the equivalent of turning around and hitting them with a sledgehammer. Twice.

As far as the OP; I think perhaps we are TOO sensitive. It's no different than Harley Davidson having "military" editions of their motorcycles.

It's a clash of public vs. private interest. It's one thing for a local business to go out of its way for a community whilst also improving its reputation but it's something else when a faceless national fast food brand starts publishing adverts that play on national sentiment - and that's what that tweet is - an advert. If they really wanted to do something good they could have pledged money to a cause and not said anything about it. Like Uncle Grandfather says, it's a question of profit over people and I don't think you can be too sensitive about it or you'll find one day your kids are wearing a school uniform sponsored by an energy drink.

Some people might see that as the same thing.

Some historians also see that WWII would've been all but over, whether American dropped nucular bombs or not.
