what about this little nugget:
Ken ... was actually very close to finishing up the Console designs and if it had not been for my own mismanagement of time and money would have had it done a year ago.

Ditto.

Honestly, if I had any skin in this game, I'd take the pedals, even if I didn't want them, and then just resell them. Yes, you're going to take a loss by reselling them, but at least you're getting SOME money.

Look at it this way: her personal finances are fucked up badly enough that she ended up having to take 20 grand of capital out of her business just to get by. Do you really think she's going to have the surplus kicking around to start refunding people? I doubt it.
Maybe she could start another kickstarter and use that money to pay everyone back? Haha.

Often times, I've really wanted to contribute to a kickstarter, but I never do because I feel like shit like this happens way too often. People try kickstarting cool video games or whatever, with like a 2-3 year window, and I just don't have faith in some random person to responsibly maintain their end of the promise for that long. I feel bad for the 200 or so people who gave her twice what she originally asked for and still get basically nothing from it.

I have no horse in this race, but that really bugged me too

It's a bummer that she defaulted, but it's not suprising

Yeah. I suppose if I don't hear anything back about getting my money then I will just settle for pedals and then sell those. Just sucks

I have no horse in this race, but with that offer I would be just as leery to get the pedals. It might flood the market, y'know? Could be tough to flip them. But obviously it depends on if you can actually get a refund.

I feel bad for the people who contributed though.

That sucks... For the backers and for Devi. The concept was pretty rad, and I trust Ken with engineering and stuff.
Good deals: OsbornKT, Phantasmagorovich, UglyCasanova, DarkAxel, Skip, D.o.S, ColdBrightSunlight, Eivind August, Goroth

market got flooded after her 50$ deals and to be honest past 3 years after she stopped personally wiring things build quality went wayyyyy down. way too many times i purchased brand new from etsy 2-300$ pedals only to open them up and see duc tape and shit. honest though any pedal she made for me was awesome build quality. it was whenever someone else in her shop built them that they sucked (crappy grounds, fucked up noise, etc.). The fact she stopped building lead me to believe she just stopped caring about the pedals. on top of that some people are just tired of her shit and dont want to even mess with the brand. flipping devi products and devi licensed stuff is friggen hard these days.

i feel bad for people that contributed, I wanted to contribute, but being a fuzz fan for a while Ive been buying devi products since it was effector 13 (i actually joined this site because devi recommended it), and knowing her past track record of being all good with business and than major business melt down i couldnt invest in the kickstarter. just. seemed. bad.

Not "Poor Devi", poor everyone else who believed in her and gave her their money. I don't feel sorry for her. She brings in on herself. :idk:
I can respect that she was able to say "I fucked up" 'cause that shit takes a lot of guts to do. It's too bad it didn't fly but not every great idea is destined for success.....

I guess the moral of the story is borrow from a bank and them default rather than have to pay your friends back.....

Can't say I'm surprised. Disappointed, but not surprised in the least.

I liked the idea. I would have bought one. But, I have a rule about not paying builders for pedals ahead of time, unless it's something custom. Too many experiences of builders taking way longer than they said they would. So, when the Console kickstarter came up, even though I wanted it, I held back due to my policy and due to devi's sketchy history regarding it. I figured if she actually did make it, I wouldn't mind spending a little more to pick one up after the fact than to trust her with my money beforehand, not knowing when or if I'd ever see a return.

I think many people should think about this before they fund any kickstarter project in general. Could you wait and pick it up after it's actually made? How much would lose if you just waited until the product actually exists?

The one thing I don't understand is that multiple people in this thread have said that she has no legal obligation to return the money. Is that Kickstarter's stipulation? That you can't sue to recoup your money if the builder abandons the project? If so, that sucks that they make you sign your rights away in order to spend money for products that don't exist. But, if kickstarter doesn't have you sign your rights away, then you certainly can sue to recoup the funds. And with $40K at stake, I would think a group of investors could easily find a lawyer to take the case and maybe even sue for damages as well.
