I love hearing him talk about caffeine, too. About how it's a drug to turn us into worker drones. He was so full of shit but also so right on. And he was always great to listen to.

man, i really want to use a terence mckenna sample from an episode of c2c
but that seems either patently illegal or expensive/impossible/a headache depending on my approach...

when you are sampling an anonymous caller like tool it's a little difference i guess...although intellectually it seems like whatever radio corporation was airing c2c at the time would have ownership of the sample tool used

im not a lawyer... :picard: but i have read a lot of john grisham novels...

I don't really have an opinion on this, but my friend that got me into C2C always brings up conspiracy stuff to me and said a few times that he thinks that Art Bell was basically told to shut up about 9/11 because of how dismissive he was with 9/11 conspiracy theories when he was willing to talk about loads of other stuff.

Late response, but thought that it might be worth bringing it up since you made me think of that.

I would think that Terence's words belong to the McKenna estate unless there was some kind of contract with Premiere or whoever aired it. But I, also, am not a lawyer.
And you're probably safe unless you're expecting to make any money off it.

I've heard some of the times he's dismissed those trains of thought; I think he just thinks they're bullshit. He's always a skeptic, but he has some pretty strong opinions on political type stuff.

Have you heard any of those people that suggest that the Sandy Hook parents are actors, and that it was staged? I heard a caller on the radio the other night rambling on about it. Whoever the host was, not Art Bell of course, dismissed it pretty quick. These kinds of conspiracy theories can be pretty offensive to anyone sympathetic to the victims. That may be part of where Art Bell was coming from with the 9/11 thing, too.

I haven't heard him dismissing 9/11 conspiracy folks, and really haven't had a reason to look into what anyone on his show might have said about it.

And yeah, I've heard quite a bit of that shit. I often end up browsing through r/conspiracy on reddit because I find toying around with the idea + the whole "what if?" aspect to be pretty fun, and there's a lot of it that I do end up thinking that with (what you said about how it can be seen as offensive). I think everyone should be skeptical of basically everything, but the amount that I end up seeing that's either poorly researched or just seeming like the people are trying to put blame for things on anyone that they dislike is crazy.

The difference between something like 'UFO's or Bigfoot' and '9/11 was an inside job or Sandy Hook parents are actors' is that one is totally fantastical and completely disengaged from reality...

And the the other is UFO's and Bigfoot.

Yeah, we are thinking along the same lines. maybe someday i will get to use it. theres no way i can approach the mckenna estate and im not gonna use it without permission

also i havent heard much art bell discussion of 911. my favorite art bell stuff is from the 90s and the dark matter stuff from last year is good too

whats nice about the old shows is you can google in present-day and find out who is full of shit most of the time

Never thought to check to see who called in with bs and who didn't. I do remember being freaked out by the guy that claimed to work for some government agency and is currently running from them and the guy that called in once claiming to be the antichrist.

the antichrist caller is great. i think i know which one you are talking about:

the govt agency guy running from them is probably the famous area 51 call that tool sampled.
a guy called in about a year ish later and admitted that was really him. he even repeated the frantic shaky voice he did on his hoax call and it was spot on. which saddens me, because i wanted to believe that call was real, it was soooo believable.
whats messed up is that the show went off the air in the middle of that call and the circumstances were really strange surround all of that.

thanks DOS i will drop them a line.

Yeah, that's the one. I found it to be really interesting because he was saying about how the US economy would start to have problems in 06, and I decided to look it up while listening and that's apparently when it started to decline (this was in '09-'10 when I listened to it), and was pretty weirded out by it.

And yeah, that's what I was talking about. The guy was really convincing, and the show going off air helped to sell it for me. It's a shame that it turned out to be a hoax. I really enjoyed that one. :(
