I would be banned from a home audio forum once they discovered that I scavenge most of stereo stuff for free. Some of the vinyl systems I see on there are straight up porn, but I'm not taking out a mortgage to play records.

My friend has about $1k in to his tube vinyl system and it sounds incredible. I don't know what is accomplished by spending 20 grand on vintage McIntosh.

having read a few things at TGP, i wouldn't really want to post there though IIRC i registered there when ILF was down so i could get my regular dose of Devi drama.

No oscilloscopes there - but lots of pscyhoacoustics. Don't want to get into it, but lots of audiophile "knowledge" directly contradicts the laws of physics. So unless said audiophiles are working at CERN and can do physics the rest of the world can't...

TGP is a bit the same, especially when discussing clones ("no it's not a clone, the pcb looks different, and it sounds different with the knobs at 12 o'clock, so it's definitely not a clone"), or degrees of "transparency", and we're the same in a way with our fuzzes ("I wouldn't call it splatty, it's more like velcro"). In the end, it's fun nerding it up. What I like here is that people are really open about said nerdery, and people are happy to accept opinions as opinions, and facts as facts. Many ILFers are happy to seek out new knowledge, which is why we seldom have polemics about TB/buffers and stuff. That makes it a lot of fun here, without a lot of the preachiness (in the figurative and literal sense of the word) that you see in other forums.

for me it's simply about the moderation, I hang at off mainstream boards where people can say what they like and use the word fuck can have girls in bikinis (you can thank me girls ) enough nerdiness for actual opinions, actually I am glad tgp exists because they have that funny photos thread, I go steal pics from it and post them in my facebook. saves me work. I love those threads.
