I've only every owned 15's. What am I missing by not using 10's/12's/18's?
I need to go to GC with my head and try out some cabs.

10s are all mids and crap, some people call them punchy.
12s have a... "sweetness or openness or something"
18's are like bassy 15s or mud depending on make.
I'm using 15s most of the time, I sill love my old SWR 18 and my 2X12 cab is at Bass NW waiting to be sold someday...

Ah, thank you everycat. Unfortunately I'm currently using a combro for guitar. I'll probably just be using the G-Dec for the first while with headphones so I do have time to research and mull over thangs. Guess I'll just do some research into what the peeps I like use and take it from there.

The problem with the 410s that I've played through is that they sound good until I drop a pick, bend down to pick it up, and hear what they actually sound like.
I get so used to being way above cabs that when I hear them at head level it's sometimes like

Hey man, my advice is to try everything you can and grab the best you can find for the money. I feel like you never really know how you're going to enjoy certain things like different pickups, brands, speaker size, tube vs solid state, until you get that shit in your hands and through your ears. buying gear is really tricky because of this, and while getting opinions from people is good food for thought, it's also a shot in the dark until you experience it yourself.
I will say the internet is a great resource for finding stuff that is a good deal though, and it helps you to not get ripped off.

If you're strong enough, T-40 is killer.
Why the fuck are those bodies so heavy?

T-40 would be a good choice if it was possible to actually get one in Australia. I haven't seen one for sale in a long time, and having one shipped from the US would end up at at least $700 right now..

I remember seeing a picture of him with a couple of those MASSSIVE Peavey 2x10 1x18 combos.

If you can ever find a good deal on an old used G&L SB-2JJ bass, JUMP ON IT!!! Those things are the ultimate sleeper monster bass.

I avoided Fender like the plague for a very long time, and then.....I REALLY played a p bass. They kill. My first was a squier vintage modified and it was great. I could never completely get over the fact that it said squier, but as far playability and overall quality, you couldn't beat it for the price. Then I got a MIM deluxe special(active) that I didn't really jive with.(the squier killed it.) I'm now on to MIA and I don't think I'll ever not own a p bass.
T-40s great as well but for the size they are hard to justify.(I'm 6'3 205lbs it's not that I'm too small.) They just take a toll.
Spector are great as well. I'd probably go with a p bass over the legend series though.
As suggested before, peavey kills for the price. There's really no other option based on quality to price ratio. I'd really steer clear of 410 cabs. There are just way better options for roughly the same cost. I personally run a 215 + 810.
I have no experience with G&L but I'd bet they'd be fine.
The thing about tubes is they are expensive. Expensive to buy and maintain. Tube swaps cost a good chunk of change. The cost of the tube + the cost to have it biased. My last tube swap cost $150ish. They also break up(start becoming fuzzy, how fuzzy depends on how much you crank it.) at a certain volume. What volume, depends on the head and the wattage. That being said, I run a dual rig with two tube amps. Although I may swap one out for an acoustic 370 I just picked up.
What head (tube vs ss) to use also depends on if you're going to use pedals. If so you really only need the head to put out a decent clean tone through its eq. Pedals will alter your tone allot or a little depending on your taste.

Like was stated earlier just avoid most modern solid state heads like the plague the way they clip may just be the most unpleasant thing I've ever heard.
Thats why you have to Rusty Box plus power amp

.. or a sunn beta, concert, colosseum
Also try to go for tweeterless cabs if yer gonna be using the fuzz
