6x12s FTW

a fucking load of cabs FTW

having to pay for a 6x12 to be reloaded FTL

i'm with darren for the most part on this. cheap cabs are all over the place, and a lot of them are built using the same materials and specs as the fancy cabs, or can easily be modified to higher specs. i wouldn't mind having some cabs that just look super cool someday, but that's about it. i can't bring myself to spend that money. i got an old vht cab unloaded on craigslist for $60. i spent some money getting speakers in there, but in the end, the whole thing was a really nice, well built cab with brand new speakers for under $400. i got my marshall for $250. rewired it a while ago and put in some reconed v30's that i got from a speaker dude for $100 plus my blown speakers. i've been meaning to replace the mdf back baffle with 5/8" marine birch, like i did to my old marshall, but haven't gotten around to it. but that would hardly cost me anything. that's a full stack with great speakers and high quality cabs for about $600. it sounds great too. i guess 6x12's and stuff aren't things you usually find for cheap, but i've honestly never seen the appeal. for me, i can't imagine ever using any more or less than two 4x12's. to each his own though.

I'd rather have 2 4x12s and 2 2x12s. I'm a big dude but my back hurts just looking at a 6x12.

Also yeah, cheap cabs are plentiful. I paid 500 for a Mesa, but then I paid 200 for a beat up Axis Music cab (bought it off Dan from Bison, it was toured hard) and it sounds just as good. It also has a metal grill and I fucking love that.

I honestly like that line of thinking , I always hear about the mad differences between cabs but I've only noticed the difference in speakers. I love getting cheap used cabs because sometimes they have some weird mojo even when you don't know what the hell the speakers are inside. Craigslist cabs are best in life.
