As someone who is apolitical, it isn't hard for me to separate a man's politics from his music.

I've come to accept that throughout history, characters like Varg have been mischaracterized and sensationalized through media, and the facts will only get in the way of a good story.
As such, I will probably never know the whole story. I can, however form my own opinion based on available information and what little bit I know about the world in general.

The guy is a provocateur and says a lot of things that can easily be taken out of context, something common to ESL speakers. Media would even have me believe he hates communicating or expressing himself in English...
But suggesting he supports or plans massacres seems more extreme than most of his *extreme views* which I've seen him discuss on camera, in English. So much for the media subtext...
He challenges ideas more than anything...where nothing but Norwegian mythology seems sacred.
The impression that I get is he's no more/less dangerous than the posturing wannabe thug or the demagogue wolf in sheep's clothing who insists that you be outraged about this and that, but have faith in whatever because everything is going to be alright so long as you support their agenda.
But he certainly does have dangerous ideas, especially depending on your own point of view...

I don't believe he is a premeditated murderer. But he did murder someone, whether or not it was in self-defense doesn't change the fact.
One would think he might be a bit more remorseful of the action; even from nothing more than his own misfortune arising from the situation...
But again, I don't know the whole story.

And I don't know the guy or what goes on in his head, but this series of (slightly edited) interview footage does not seem like the Varg of folklore, as perpetuated by this most recent article.
He definitely isn't charming or selfish enough to be a sociopath.
He doesn't appear to worship chaos, death & slaughter so I don't peg him to be the psychopath as reported by the scandal rags.
There does seem to be a lot of truth in his basic, sometimes aloof insight. Even if it is a bit Spartan...caustic and pert...I cant dismiss him as a raving lunatic neo-nazi sympathizer.

Im not saying i think all jews should be rounded up and gassed, but im saying if youre anti-christian, it should also follow that you are anti-semite and anti-muslim. Also its irresponsible to say that the jews didnt contribute greatly to the totally fucked global situation were in now. Also theyre responsible for alot of shitty movies.

I personally believe the the judeo-christian abrahamic scourge needs to be completely eradicated in order for the human race to move forward.

Filosofem is one of my favorite albums of all time but outside of his music, Varg is a racist, homophobic, xenophobic, etc. nutjob. And he has been from the start.

Personally, I don't think it's legit to harbor a hatred for anyone based on things that are beyond their control, whether you're in a black metal band or not.

there's a difference between being idologically/religiously opposed to the Judeo-Christian religions and buying into teh crazees, e.g. taking seriously the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, which has been shown ages ago to be a forgery from Czarist Russia or buying into the Hitlerian style of Jew-hatred.

religion is fucked. but varg hates the people and their religion. he cant separate them. i love certain people who have all kinds of faiths, but not their beliefs. and i can't stand plenty of people who i actually agree with on many points.

When it came to guitar amplifiers all the Death Metal guys told me that the way to get the "right" (trendy) sound was to use Marshall amps, and since I didn't like that sound I bought a Pivee (Pivey?) amp and used that instead. On "Filosofem" I didn't use a guitar amplifier at all, but instead used only the amplifier on my brother's stereo (that of course was not intended for that use) and some old fuzz pedals.

For "singing" I used whatever microphone the sound technician handed me, or - when I recorded "Filosofem" - I asked for the worst microphone he had, and ended up using the microphone in a headset.
