I agree that the two parties do represent different visions, despite overlap on what I see as extremely important, overlooked issues. There are key differences that you can see in the platforms, and that affects priorities and votes...and ultimately people.
Interesting. I see Obama as pretty moderate myself...not the most liberal guy around, and not nearly as extreme as we'd need to see real change in America. (Despite wanting America to be vastly different, I don't believe in a golden age of America...maybe for some groups, but there are always lots of groups getting shat on / ignored.) But anyway, do you think the Republican vision is less frighting than the Democrats'? ...Not leading--honestly interested in where you stand on that.
far less frightening than the Democrats. the Democrats stand for weak-kneed vacillation in the face of our enemies, massively raising taxes in the middle of a depression, and buying elections with giveaways to racial and sex-based identity groups via money stolen from the productive. they want a stagnant state in which opportunity is subsumed to redistribution of income and forced equality of result regardless of acumen or effort.

i avoid the subject as much as possible because the ideological gap in this country is no longer bridgeable. that, and i've gotten tired of people opposed to my views saying that people like me should be killed because we're politically conservative or cutting me off as a friend because i don't agree with their politics. i'm incredibly grateful that the folks here are better than that. it helps me to be better than that.

If everyone thought the same, acted the same and were the same we'd be really boring and [even more] fucked

It's not really the ideology as much as discussion technique. But I can agree wholeheartedly on this also discussing politics in Utah is potentially dangerous, we have some of the lowest standards in the nation for concealed weapons permits

sorry dude, could NOT resist
Really, Republicans lost this election more than Obama won it. Obama had to "buy" racial and sex-based identity groups??? How strange that the party that doesn't actively try to piss off anyone who isn't a white, straight male would win an election in a country in which is dramatically becoming more diverse as time passes.
And welfare didn't magically disappear under Bush then reappear under Obama. The difference ideologically and practically between most Republicans and Democrats is fairly small. It's considerable, but small. That's something I appreciate. You have to be realistic, and if Barack Obama is an extremist in your view, you're going to have blown your load before there's a real problem and you've already marginalized yourself and can't be taken seriously.

Then they would be hypocrites so fuck them, because if Romney wins the popular vote then anyone against the electoral college would have been right
I have my (multiple) complaints with the Dems of the now, but have yet to hear clear reason why modern Rep thought is anything outside of batshit insane.
