He must have fucking hated Scott Thunes.

Completely soulless. Couldn't agree more. :erm:
If you dislike someone's style, it doesn't make them soulless.

Funny thing. I used to dislike his music, but after reading his book I understood his music a whole lot better. Oh well :idk:

I never said I didn't like his style. I actually admire him for quite a bit for his ability and positive attitude, and even use to enjoy his music now and again. But the more I heard it the more it just sounded like technical fluff without much behind it. Bearing in mind of course that our musical direction is simply along divergent paths -- not that I am at all comparing what I can/do with what he can/do.

Not sure if you're kidding or not, but I thought that second video was a perfect example of technical skill that stays aware of mood and heart. Soulful even....

I think he said that before Scott Thunes played with him. Maybe he reconsidered?

IDK, Zappa was capable of gettin' pretty wanky himself sometimes. Maybe he just wanted more room for his own wanking?

Well there is the answer right there is the last minute of the Wooten vid... White Chicks Can't Dance to Bass Wanking...

Also who are the modern equivalent of who've we've been talking about??? Are there any??? And Flea is too old... I would say Squarepusher but he's old too... What I mean is that in the late 70's and early 80's there was a whole Basscentric style of mostly instrumental music that seems to have disappeared... Bass music nowadays is mostly Electronic in nature so I guess Skrillex is the new Bass Wanker...

Where have all the Bassists gone???
