Yeah, I understand this's a technique used to generate a buzz/interest in new pedal releases, but I don't really enjoy these kinds of guessing games.

I guess some people do?

"technique"?

You are way overestimating our marketing prowess. :D

I'm just excited when we are getting ready to roll out something new. Most of our recent products take months of work before they turn in to products. In the past when we get close to completing the process I've shared the info, but in some cases it was premature. The Quasar DLX basically came out 4 months later than expected. That really hurt us because dealers were waiting for it, and were holding off on orders until it was ready.

 Ha, Brian, I wasn't speaking of you guys specifically, but more in general.

Hey, people do what they're able to do as far as marketing goes. I'm not knockin' anyone. I know most small companies don't have much of a budget (if really any at all) for marketing. It's totally natural to be excited about a new pedal. I'm not immune, but I like full disclosure. Details in dribs and drabs is often just annoying to me, but maybe that's just cause I'm usually cranky.

Putting things into production isn't easy. You guys do your homework and put plenty of time into R & D. I like SubDecay because you're down to earth and don't overhype your new pedal releases (unlike many others). You're doing some really good work. Keep it up. I'm interested.

I didn't really take it as an insult. I just think it's genuinely funny when people think we are marketing. I suppose on some level it's deliberate, but at the same time we are a 'seat of our pants' operation.

Honestly I'd love to find a way to overhype our products. :D
But i generally suck at it. My approach is more or less 'hey look here's some new shit... buy it... or don't... whatever.' That's a terrible tagline or marketing slogan.
Basically I've figured out that we need to make products that are impressive on their own. With our marketing (or lack of) we can't really get people to buy another tweaked tubescreamer or two knob fuzz... Even if the results are truly awesome, anything in that form factor needs some creative marketing to go along with it.

And I don't begrudge other builders for doing that stuff. Our weakness in some areas have pushed us to up our game in other areas. We've done some cool creative stuff. I think we are doing stuff most others can't or just don't want to do.

Build something with a 4558 in it and let TGP do the rest

I figured after the Spring Theory you (and the fairly recent Octasynth) you guys would have lain low for a while, so this new pedal whatever it is is unexpected (I was going to write "unexpected surprise" when I realised that was perhaps grammatically kookoo). I like the info tidbits - it's cool to follow a pedal's journey from the outside.

sooooooo........ without giving away anything that you shouldn't, is this going to be primarily a guitar range pedal? i like the OctaSynth a lot, but only about a 1/4 of what it does works on bass.

murrrrrrrr?

It's more or less tuned for guitar... but there are trim pots. I'm not sure i'd recommend messing with them unless you have several years of trimpot ninja training. One of the trimmers will be glued over and sheltered from dangerous curiosity of the outside world. the other two... well I'm not so sure yet. it wouldn't be the end of the world if someone got their grubby mits on them, but it can be made to sound like a polar bear feasting on a seal carcass while being molested by aliens. I'm not so sure that's a sound many would like unless they are in to some sadistic audio perversion.

It's funny because when I was messing around with it I came up with a completely off the wall idea based on some really horrible trim pot settings.
I don't think it will actually work with a BBD in a user friendly way. It needs a bit more really work as a usable effect. We'll probably need to get all DSP on it. I took some notes yesterday.... maybe in a year or two i'll get back to them.

That might actually make a good pedal name.... or maybe better for the name of a spinoff brand. LOL

Either way, you should use it.
