Just don't do it just because the Ramones did it. Anyway, Jimmy Page was the one who came up with that style and Jimmy can do whatever the Fuck he wants.

I don't limit myself to ONLY downstrokes. I do it because it sounds sex-ifying to my ears at times.

who ever said they wanted to play nothing but downstrokes all the time? sometimes one wants to play a passage all in downstrokes for effect or emphasis, in the same way i might use a particular typeface, or more pertinently in the same way that i'll often play a long phrase all on one or two strings to keep the timbre the same rather than playing across the neck and having to change from unwound to wound strings.
