lmao he's see evolution if he'd fucking listen to new bands instead of just check out who is in Rolling Stone or Spin or whatever outdated 90's music rag he reads.

hell, you could just take one city and name a buttload of rad alternative bands

actually i'd say the opposite is true. metal guitar has literally gone nowhere for 20 years until Tosin Abasi, and non-metal guitar has had very characteristic movements and eras

And that someone was probably Richard Linklater.

Really??? Every time I post now I should expect some Austin hate??? Hey D.o.S. what did you dislike about Austin last time you were here???

Slacker was a look at a scene in Austin 20 years ago that has been extinct since about the time the movie even came out...

:hello:

I like Richard Linklater.

@Gearmond: I read your message, I'm just not in a mood to respond right now. Nothing about what you said, I just wanted to let you know that I wasn't blowing you off.

I feel like that's not totally true, it's been developing into slightly more technical and progressive sounds, with Tosin suddenly leaping forward. I don't think that it's a far stretch to say that Colors was a mindblowing album.

I feel like non metal guitar, ignoring mathrock, has kind of branched into this weird Buddy Holly throwback for the most part. Garage rock is dead (except for a couple bands in Japan I found over the summer), Fuzz rock (a'la Siamese Dream) is gone, the only stuff I've been able to find even remotely like it is the "stoner rock" bands, but they're all just rehashing the same fuzzy psych blues sound.

Please, prove me wrong, though. I don't like feeling like guitar music is stagnant.

Oh, and that shit's no joke, from what I've read.

You mean all that stuff about how it's bullshit with no scientific basis? Yeah, great stuff.

Also, I don't see the big deal about Tosin Abasi. Sure he's really technically proficient, but Animals as Leaders just kind of lull me to sleep.

meh, i think Colors was just AT BEST a step forward from say Converge. not that its a bad album by any means at all.

you're just talking about OLD genres when you're talking about other genres, which isn't really fair. post rock has developed oodles, you have twinkle daddy stuff and some of the tappy things as well. Urichirangoon has a fairly interesting style, and Shugo Tokumaru has an awesomely virtuosic sort of pop guitar going on, and i've foind a decent mumber of dudes doing similar things, Dirty Projectors type stuff is goin on, as is Skeleton$ sorta VERY white-ified afrobeat thing, Dustin Wong goin crazy with loops, and not to toot my own horn, but i feel like i'm doing things and making sounds on guitar that haven't really been done before.

Man, I drove 460 miles today to play two shows within three hours in Austin (and also chill with a bro) and I come back to this thread. Since when has Billy Corgan been musically relevant? Also, since when is it about numbers?

Or, since when do I give a shit?

Also, despite having a pretty okay time today, I was still kind of infuriated by being in the downtown area during south by. I swear to god, fucking infuriating place.
