I think i've pre-sold myself on the 25's. I look at it as, if we come down in volume and hover around 120 dB - dropping the actual sound level to your nerve endings to 95dB - not a bad thing to do.

No kidding. My biggest suggestion would be for you to go to the audiologist sooner than later, tell them exactly what you just told us, and ask them what they think. I know when I told my audiologist what I was playing (bass), and told them that I just wanted something to keep my ears safe at a concert or whatnot, they knew exactly what sizes to recommend for me. I just got lucky, and somehow Westone sent my doc the 25s without charging me or my doc anything, so the doc gave them to me for free. I've never needed anything more than the 15s, but you might want to check on that.

...out of curiosity, how much does it cost to get molds done for personal era plugs in the States?

In Finland there's this one place where they do it, by a medical specialists appointment. And they cost an arm and a leg. At least they used to cost more than a guitar, making them unavailable for everybody except the professionals that would get a significant tax compensation for it.

$150. Custom molds, test, and the plugs.

hahahahaha, man, this thread is making me feel kinda...bad. Especially because I KNOW one of my bands is >130 dB.

Yeah, I intend to bring my 25s when I come see you dudes. The beauty of attenuators, though, is that I can even still hear people whisper to me if they're standing next to me. It just keeps my nice delicate earholes from being totally demolished. It's kind of crazy to feel, too. When I saw Deafheaven live (by far the loudest band I've seen since I got the westones), I only had my 15s on me, and I could actually feel them, I dunno, like closing down? I could feel a pressure on my ear. It was nuts.

oof. i have a bud that owned a piercing shop in Berkeley at the heoght of it's popularity. his ears were stretched at least that big. he'd do this thing where he'd flip them up and wrap them around his solid part. twice. to.... blend in? i guess?

anyhoo, he decided to join the Navy, got his face tats removed, and went through a process where they snip the end, roll it up next to the nub, MELT THE SKIN, reform it into a "normal" looling lobe.

ouchers. i give a fuck what someone does to themselves body mod style, doesn't make me think anything about what kinda person they are (unless there's like racist shit tatted all over them), and a lot of tats are awesome or SECHSY. but i've always made sure i could hide any piercings or tats under clothes. it's just a fact that a lot of people/organizations/jobs DO judge people on appearance. 'specially modded appearance stuff. and i don't wanna melt my ears.
