Re: HOLY FECKIN FARK!
Talked to Kevin the other day and he said he is waiting for a batch to come back from the Anodizers, and once they do he is going to show me some samples of the guitars they do on guitars. A week or so before I choose my beast's color.

Re: HOLY FECKIN FARK!
well, I'm still waiting for him to get his batch back of colors although I am leaning against a color for this beast. I'll probably go with more of a metal, brushed aluminum or titanium type finish. I'll spill some more of what I'm going for. Going to have a mosrite style body with the german carve on the aluminum body shall be sexy. Asking him to put a phase switch and a kill button on there. I want it to look like an arcade button that I can tap as fast as I like.

Re: HOLY FECKIN FARK!
I sent my letter of intent yesterday. Now I'm waiting to hear his comments.
I want a short scale 6-string. Something that feels like my Jaguar but with decent sustain.
I'm thinking I want a body style something like this:

Either is fine by me. I think that guitar is the bees. More guitar porn is always a good thing.

Re: HOLY FECKIN FARK!
Here's our communication so far:
Me:
I want something that feels like my Fender Jaguar but that’s got more sustain and tonal variation. I want the same short 24-inch scale and other neck dimensions. (I can measure mine and get them to you.)
Ergonomics are an issue. I understand that an aluminum guitar won’t ever be light, but I’d like to minimize it as much as possible. That said, I don’t want to sacrifice sustain. Neck dive is also something I worry about. I wouldn’t be comfortable playing a guitar that I have to hold up with my fretting hand. Maybe these are competing priorities? For me, preventing neck dive is most important, followed by maintaining sustain and cutting weight. I’m hoping the shorter scale will be enough to prevent the neck dive. Are your necks hollow?
Other competing priorities might be the pickups. I like variety but I don’t want to sacrifice quality. I’m tempted to ask for humbuckers with coil-tap but I don’t want that if the tapped sound isn’t as good as a normal single-coil sound. I’m more likely to default to the single coil sound. I think I’d like three pickups. One that’s thick and beefy, one thats sparkly with some jangle, and one that’s clangy; if that makes sense. I don’t want anything super high output because I’d like to be able to share the same pedals and amp setup with my Jaguar. What do you suggest?
As far as controls, I think I’d like roller knobs (as on the upper bout of a Jaguar) for volume and tone with a small toggle switch for each pickup.
Other details:
I’d like a 9” radius. I’d like a flat jack on the face of the guitar.
I’m interested in your opinion on nut materials. I kind of like the idea of an aluminum nut. Is that something you recommend?
Okay, here’s my crazy idea:
I like the behind-the-bridge sounds on a Jaguar but I don’t want a vibrato. I love that your guitars have the strings through the neck block. Is there a way to have a bridge like a tune-o-matic that’s anchored into the neck block with a tailpiece a couple inches behind that sends the strings through the neck block? Maybe extend the neck block? Would that totally kill sustain? Would it make it extra heavy?
And maybe the craziest part - I’d like a pickup behind the bridge with it’s own volume, tone and toggle.
As far as aesthetics:
I’ve got some ideas about body shape and layout and I can send you pictures. I think I’d like a powdercoated finish.
For the neck, can you make the back of the neck match the guitar and make the fretboard area a different color? How about a polished "block inlay" and "binding" look? Or maybe a powdercoated back of the neck with a brushed fretboard? Either way, I’d like the headstock to match the body.
As far as the ordering/design process:
Will you send pictures of CAD drawings or other plans before machining?
What should I expect for periodic updates?
At what points in the process can I request changes?
Kevin:
Cool deal. As for weight youll be looking at 9lbs or less. Its not too heavy at all.
It wont neck dive, Ill balance it out and yes this neck will be hollow.
Pickups, I would go full single coil. A tapped humbucker is never the same. Can you get the output of your Jag? I can make the pickups custom for you and fit them in.
Radius, cool.
Nut. Aluminum all the way.
Controls, cool.
As for the strings/Bridge. I can make the strings go back as far as the regular jag trem and go to a hard tail or make it strings through the body. Either will sound good. Theres no much metal thats its going to ring out.
Pickups behind the bridge, thats a first. I this one of the 3? or will there be 4 in total?
I can do blocks, thats cool.
With the hollow necks you can have the fretboard one color and the neck another.
Ill verify all the details through jpegs, I dont send my files out...nothing personal.
Up dates, just know most of the wait is just that a wait. It will literally take me 2 weeks to fully machine and build once its started, so just know that no news doesnt mean theres nothing up, its just getting to it in line. As for changes the above lends itself to this quite well. So yes.
Send me those pictures, and we can go from there.

Re: HOLY FECKIN FARK!
The pickup for behind the bridge is such a cool idea!! I bet with a string length there similar to a jag you would get some cool noises even picking normally if you mixed some of that in with the 'normal' pickups. Crazy sympathetic notes and stuff, bet it would sound killer.

Re: HOLY FECKIN FARK!
Yeah, that's what I'm hoping for. I'm not sure what kind of pickup to request for that, though. Humbucker, single, piezo?
