The thing that totally seals the deal that this is paid for, is the fact that they use all of the current production models, even when those aren't the celebrated models.
The FZ-5 is widely considered fucking terrible. But a lot of people like the FZ-3. Also, I've heard tons of great shit about the Guyatone TZ-2, which is supposed to be a great SuperFuzz clone. But I haven't heard a fucking thing about the TZm5. If this was really about great fuzz pedals and not just a paid-for advertisement, they wouldn't just be talking about currently in production models.

It's totally paid for, but I doubt it's as obvious as your plan makes it out.
For example, I'm guessing Boss (or another company) is showing up at their doorstep with a check and a note that says "Hype the shit out of the FZ-7."
My money's on the idea that the editors/compilers/publishing dudes and dudettes got together and said "Shit. We know that Boss hasn't made a good fuzz pedal since the FZ-2, but they give us ad money. Let's close are ears and talk up the FZ-7."
On the other hand, I don't work for/write for/have any association with Guitar Player, so I don't know and cannot speak authoritatively on the subject.

This is why I don't like magazine reviews anymore

Are there any mainstream hobby/review magazines that regularly feature out-of-production products? There is a good range to this list. I think smaller builders have an excellent showing on this list, as well as the brands that your average guitar player has heard of and can try out at Guitar Center. I think more people would be upset if they made a list of pedals that are really difficult to find...

My friend writes for a German gear Magazine: he interviewed (for the to come fuzz article) Tom Dalton, Pete cornish and Eric barbour (metasonix). I think, a quite good bandwidth. BTW pictures of my pedals in there
Will See, if i'm allowd to post sth.
So you See, you could make the article a Lot better

Yeah, I posted this before reading the review. It was kinda lackluster. :/
Same, it was kinda like "oh, I guess this would eb cool if I didn't already know all of these," so I guess for the "normal" non-ilfer it's a good step foward.
