It's supposedly an issue, but usually only with finnicky fuzzes. I never noticed anything when I had an ATK.

Only an issue with Germanium fuzzes I think.

Non fuzz pedals should be fine, not sure why although someone on here has to know why, but some fuzz pedals can't stand any buffer in front of them, I think it is based on the load that they put back on the guitar pickups, SHO might have the same issue but not as bad.

I learned this the hard way when I put my first fuzz factory behind my Jeckyl and Hyde. In general most pedals should be find with active pickups, I have friends who drop the 81/85 combo in everything they own and still run monster pedal boards with no issues. And if you run all true bypass pedals you won't have to worry about adding a buffer to make up for long cable runs.

Most pedals work fine for active and passive basses. The ones that don't are mostly fuzzes, which can have funny things happen to them when they get hit with the output impedance of an active bass. With some pedals (Wooly Mammoths & clones especially, as well as the DAM Sonic Titan-I think), the difference is disgustingly dramatic.

The Great Destroyer, Shiva, and Fuzz Factory will not work with active pickups.
I've never understood active pickups. I always use an amplifier to make my guitar or bass loud

I don't get them either, plus it's killing more bateries, and I forget to unplug stuff like that, never understood why one acoustic guitar company couldn't just put a small battery disconnect switch on the preamp. It's the most antiquated and stupid system ever!

The Mastotron is essentially a tweaked Woolly Mammoth with an impedance control on the input -- supposed to behave better with active basses (or guitars) or behind other pedals. It's a pretty simple mod to do to a DIY Woolly Mammoth.

Ibanez ATK. I always ran it with just the mids cranked, everything else flat, and my TGD did the same awesome buzzsaw feedback-tremelo thing it did with my L-1000, a passive bass. Maybe I'm just lucky?

I've pretty much decided on a MM of some sort now to figure out the amp situation....debating between a couple of options..
G-K (probably one of the MB series), maybe?
The Phil Jones stuff looks pretty sweet, but I fear that they might be expensive..I honestly have no idea how much, though.

I've done a little more research...thinking about a Bongo4 with the double humbuggies (to borrow a phrase from GMD )
