Was threatened last night...what would you do?

one time i was walking through a parking lot with a group of friends, about 8 people, half boys and girls, ages from 18-20. i hear a noise and look to my right as a pickup is backing up into ..me. i jump back and he stops and i was inches away from getting run over. i yell 'you almost just ran over me' and the guy jumps out of his car looking like he's ready to beat the shit out of me. i get the whole aplha male 'the fuck did you just say to me?' speech while he was walking towards me very aggressively. i just repeated to him 'you almost ran over me, watch where you are going' until he looked between my group of bewildered friends and me before be got back into his truck.

whole thing took about 20 seconds. for the next 2 or so days i was pretty jumpy, not out of fear but just like you tried to attack me because you almost ran over me? really? what the fuck is wrong with your brain? i hate people. so many instances of violence come out of situations where absolutely no logical thought is happening.

in public situations like that i think the smartest thing to do is just to get 3rd party attention drawn to you and just try and remove yourself and stop anything that could be misconstrued as an instigation. i would have no idea what i would do if someone pulled a gun on me

Didn't read the whole thread, but a couple of my uncles took a conceal and carry class to get their license to buy handguns at gun auctions and expos.

Basically the cop teaching the class if someone is threatening you to the point where you need to pull a gun on them, you better be ready to end their life and make sure no one could testify against you. If you don't, you're going bankrupt from legal fees defending yourself in court. I don't know if this experience is common but it's frightening.

To me it just doesn't seem worth it and hopefully those assholes will meet someone just as crazy as they are someday and they'll both be sorry. No blood on your hands

I don't know if this could be the smartest, she could still shoot you for the spot. I would totally draw attention at the scene though, bullies just like dealing with people one-on-one. Once someone else is watching though, aggression dies. I personally know this the fastest way to resolve shit, it works well for me.

Here's how it should have gone: She threatens to get her car out of the trunk. Fine, bitch! You let her open the trunk, then toss her ass in and slam it shut. Then take her keys out of the ignition and toss them into the middle of nowhere. An easy solution to a difficult situation! Or at least tell people this is how it happened because they'll think you totally took it to the limit. Yeah!

This is tough. As everyone else has already said, you probably should not have incited the lunatic anymore than possible. However, I feel your pain to some extent. I was held at gunpoint in DC about 6 years ago. Think I was only 17 or 18 at the time. Needless to say, this scared the living shit out of me. After that I seriously considered getting my own gun and permit to carry, but after a the shock wore off I realized that I shouldn't have been in that part of town anyway by myself and that the situation was totally avoidable.

This is where the plot thickens. Last year my apartment got broken into in broad daylight. Both my girlfriend and I were in class...luckily. The fucker(s) trashed the place, stole two flat screen televisions, and left a very threatening letter on the counter saying if I report anything that they will come back for me. Of course I reported the incident immediately. Cops never caught the person(s) who did it, and as you could of guessed the tv's were never to be seen again. Anyway, lived the next week and a half at a hotel until folks could help me move to a new place (pimp ass condo btw). I decided that being victimized like that was not going to happen again. I took the firearm safety and training courses and got my permit to carry. Now that's not to say I had intentions of going out and about to seek vengeance Punisher style, but I know that I can protect myself if it comes to it. I am not someone who would typically believe that is okay to harm (fatally or otherwise) someone, but if someone breaks into my place and threatens my life I have no problem defending myself.

Whatever you decide to do, just remember to stay as calm as possible if something like that ever happens again. Remember to think things through. Try to imagine every possible scenario of your actions all while maintaining as much control over the situation as possible.

Also if someone does break into your place, I've heard that unless the threaten you or attempt to harm you, you cannot shoot them, you will go to jail. Kind of fucked up thinking I could waltz into someone's place, politely inform them that I will be taking their stuff and if they harm me they could get sent to jail :wha:

With a C&C you could have shown her you gun and told her to go back to Hazard county and jump a bush. I seriously can't stand these people with this entitlement complex and feeling like degenerating to threats of violence is going to solve anything. This world (and Americunt in particular) needs a serious population decrease. We've been hindering natural selection for way too long.

I think Jwar did the right thing by informing the cops. I wouldn't have hesitated in calling them as soon as she threatened me with a gun. I would have taken down license plate numbers and filed charges. People need to learn that Gun Ownership is a responsibility and not one to take lightly. If you threaten a person with a gun you better be damn ready to follow through with that threat or you could easily wind up dead yourself. Keeping a gun in the trunk of your car is STUPID BEYOND BELIEF. That's how guns get stolen and that's how real criminals get their hands on firearms.

Actually many states have adopted what is known as the "Castle Doctrine." I live in Tennessee for school, and TN just happens to be one of those states that have a statue that allow you to protect your home by deadly force. The "Castle Doctrine" eliminates the need to retreat before using such force. So say I go home to Virginia and someone breaks into my parents house, before I could use deadly force to protect myself I would first have to retreat and make sure the perpetrators face was to me if I were to shoot him. pretty fucked up if you ask me.

Agree'd. I personally like guns but from a Home and Personal Defense standpoint I feel like they absolutely are not the tool for the job. Home Defense = a nasty loud dog. I say this because in order to have a gun at the ready you need to have it easily accessible,....and that means that it's now easily accessible to someone that might steal it and sell it to someone with no regard for any law. A gun is pay dirt to a burglar and stolen guns usually account for the majority of crimes involving firearms. Personal defense I think comes from having some wits, knowledge and knowing some self defense maneuvers.

Course that's all easy for me to say; I've never been in a position to defend myself,...

Yeah especially if you have young kids, a gun might not be the easiest solution. You have to lock it away from your kids and then at that point it isn't exactly handy in the first place.

I have a kid and im not violent person either. But I live in a country where guns are illegal and people don't get shot on the streets. easy as that.

of course you get the usual shit, but compare the figures of people dying because of gun related incidents and then tell me who must be joking..
