They will fire you if you buy gear at cost and flip it. They dont always catch you. But if your constantly buying gear thats more than your paycheck, its pretty obvious.

I've had friends and relatives buy things for other people before using their employee discount, since those things are usually gifts and not every single day the companies didn't "find out."

I went to GC today, and it was a new guy, it was amazing. He was enthusiastic and we talked for like half anhour about gear and stores and stuff. It was really cool. that's teh kind of guy you have to be, it sucks be blown off by those guys, especially when you like "so I'm gonan spend $500" and they're like "Ugh there's some shit in that corner you'll like since you suck." Really GC, really.

I would get in trouble if I spent 30 min on one customer. also, some people dont want to be bothered by sales people. GC cant please all the people all the time.

Yep. That meant that they could run the store short staffed and the manager would get a 5000 bonus for hitting payroll goals. He got another $10,000 for hitting sales goals. In the other store where the manager was nice, he got fired for not hitting goals

yeah it depends on the store.
first time i went into a store to buy a pedal, it was for a digitech bass multi-effect.
the store had a guy come in and sell his RP300artists, basically the RP350 before it came out, and i was told that digitech sound the same through bass or guitar (not sure if its true overall, but i do think a few effects work better in the higher register) for less than half the price. and for a first pedal i'd say it was an upgrade from what i intended to buy

What if you fucked a customer...
...If they also bought gear, what amount would make it just go away?
Like if eatyourguitar let somebody bone his ass behind the dumpster, but that same person then bought a new MIA Strat. Does a ~$1000 get you off the hook? More? Or is this even just like a pack of strings and some Chiclets from the machine by door on their way out? Isn't that just why they give you a commission?
