Night of the Hunter is another amazing piece of art. Love it. I also read someone mentioned Brazil, that's another great one. Again, obviously people have been mentioning the likes of Lynch and Jarmusch. I really think you shouldn't leave Cronenberg out of the picture. His movies are CULT by definition really, Videodrome, Scanners, and my favorite...
Both leads played by Jeremy Irons in one of the best performances ever imo. Also based on a book that's a true story, which adds to the pull of the movie.

I am sure all of the more popular cult movies have been mentioned but my two are:
Meet the Feebles - Peter Jackson
and a good revisit Evil Dead by Sam Rami never hurt anyone.

Cult films for music lovers:
Down By Law -One of Jim Jarmusch's best. Starring Tom Waits, Roberto Benigni and John Lurie
Big Time -Tom Waits in concert.
200 Motels-Surreal Zappa documentary
Head -Psychedelic Monkees adventure co-written by Jack Nicholson
Half-Cocked -(members of Rachel's, June of 44, Rodan, Retsin, Make-Up, Grifters, etc. try their hand at acting) Worth it for the soundtrack alone. Ian Sevonius
500 Fingers of Dr. T. -Dr. Seuss penned flick about an evil piano teacher and his 500 students.
24 Hour Party People -Rise and fall of Factory Records
1991 the Year Punk Broke - Live and tour footage of Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr and others.
In college we would sneak into the media equipped class rooms and have 2am screenings of this.
