Real madrid has lost the little identity they had after hiring Mouriño.
They are sooo desperate for titles that they have forgotten what is all about..

Visca Barca!!!

As far as the playing of soccer I know you get blasted once in a while but I completely hate shinguards

I had those little kids plastic ones I tucked between 2 pairs of socks for games but I never felt comfortable in the amrored up stuff that some people wear.

Although my kids both wear pretty heavy protection for youth soccer.

My dad played professionally in Mexico. He raised me on arsenal. I'm also a supporting member of my hometown of my beloved Columbus Crew. That's why I support. It irks me so much when I meet ManU or Chelsea fans who can't name a striker outside of Drogba and Torres.

I wore diadora ones growing up. I wear Nike ones now. Really light and thin. Somewhat comfy.

Having been to more road games than I care to remember, how a team treats its visiting fans plays a big part in it. Some teams and by extension the town and their mayor go absolutely mental and put you through more probing than any border guard I've ever encountered. Those teams can all relegate and rot in lower division hell.

Fun aspect is the relationship with teams from other countries. Some teams you get along with while others ... not so much. Most of that seems to be based on if the teams have similar identities. Painful European cup clashes also factor in and that shit runs deep even if it was decades ago.

*Edit* Also I am not looking forward to this upcoming season. My team is still in disarray because of the financial situation so we're waiting for the rich boys to be done collecting money and buy 49% of the shares. Until that happens the team will be an absolute non-factor.

and then there's the historical stuff. not just the match riots, but things like the Spanish Civil War subtext to the Real Madrid/Barca rivalry.

I think I am 5-6 hours to Ohio, it is probably the most centrally located place to play.
