Just so I don't have to google, what is the difference with the bass+

With out looking it up because I don't remember... the plus is a lot louder and has more crushing lows where the 400 is more just big and tooby.. It's gritty sound is a bit more gritty.. really nice amp.. it does what the SVT did for me but not as much of a back breaker.. or as honky sounding..

As a white person, I take offense to that... ;)

Nice amps, duder.

:thumb: I play with a guitarist that is aways saying I'm too loud.. I tell him he is being too white :thumb:

That's a bass rig you can feel across the interweb. Badass, fuzzlord.

   Please tell me that's an 18 on the bottom so you can tell me how it matches up with 12's. I've got an emperor 2x12 bass cab and really want to pickup a 1x18 as well, so I'm curious to how the pair works.

I always thought the Bass400 was a direct descendant of the Strategy series power amps.
like it was a Strategy 400 with a bass preamp.
and the 400+ they redesigned the poweramp section as a dedicated bass amp poweramp.
:idunno: i might be totally wrong.

i know the strategy 500 has 6L6 & 6550(or kt88)
but the stratey 400, bass 400 & Bass 400+ all have just a dozen 6L6
I miss my 400+, such a great sounding amp.

in order to stick in KT88s you would have to do some math concerning what the reflected primary impedance and secondary impedance taps would be with less KT88s. You could not stick in KT88s in all of the slots, there is not enough heater current to center or center valve spacing to do that. If you did 6 KT88s (assuming originally 12 6l6s) that would be like pulling 2 tubes in a 100W amp and running it. All the output taps would double. Not sure what kind of power level you would get of course.

Each KT88 has ~0.6-0.7 more amps of heater current so it would not be possible to throw them all into the amp even if they cleared the center to center distance. That would far exceed the VA rating on the heater winding and the PT resulting in PT failure due to significant overheating. Beyond that the required secondary HVAC current is not sufficient to operate properly with KT88s.

Thanks guys. Yup that's an 18. I think it matches pretty well with the 12's. that's where all the beef comes from. It gets crazy low. I wanna try out a thumpinator or fdeck to tame some of the lows. I love this set up, fucking brutally loud and sounds wicked with dirt. The only thing I GAS for now is a Dunwich

Run those 2 400's with 2 of these to destroy buildings!
