i went out to the local thrift store and found a PERFECT little oak kitchen table with two slide-out wings that fits perfectly in my tiny kitchen and will fold out to seat 6 to 8 in a pinch for $100. so now there's a table to eat off and set the laptop on. and it's actually a really nice table...with some TLC (or perhaps some Spice Girls if i'm feeling white) it'd be really pretty. if i can make a couple of more scores like this i may get to like refurnishing the house.

it's times like these that i really miss Chicago. when i lived there the garbage collectors had one day every couple of months designated as Large Item Day, and people in the more house-proud parts of town would put out sofas, armchairs, carpets, tables...i used to furnish entire apartments from Large Item Day.

True, I go around in the spring when people put out their trash, they're some really cool stuff sometimes.

i got a pretty nice couch the other night from the salvation army, its right across the street from me and at night ppl leave stuff outside for them to sell, they over price the furniture way to much anyway so i figured taking it wasn't a big deal, i dont see how charging 200 for an old couch is reasonable when u could go to ikea and get a brand new one for the same price or less :idk:

Cool story:

in 1996, my mom bought a standing lamp from Ikea. Somehow, that is the only standing lamp that has lasted longer than a year in my house. Still works, and has outlasted eight other standing lamps. Dunno how we're so hard on standing lamps, they just seem to stop working, or get knocked down by cats. But, the Ikea one reigns supreme.

once i get stuff sorted out here i could have a workbench in one of the sheds :!!!:

the thing is, if you pick out the right Ikea stuff it'll last forever; it's the crappy particle-board bookcases and such that have so horribly discredited them.

nice workshop you got there :thumb:
Once my basement is dried out again and the whole basement shit is taken care of I will have to rebuild my whole workshop again... maybe rearrange some things. Improve stuff I wasn't happy with the way it was now... yaay for floodings I guess :idk:

apparently sometimes forcible change is good LOL. today i was actually able to take the laptop into the bedroom and lie down and smoke a bowl while listening to Merzbow/Pan Sonic without anyone giving me shit for smoking in bed.

I got my first pedagogy paper back today, which I was sure I'd failed. Terrible paper. Not only did I pass, I did well. The same thing happened on my summer course (egyptology). Wierd. I think it may be me taking psychology for a year, which is apparently considered hard. University in general can't be this fucking easy?
