I guess that means my procrastination on contributions to that demo thread is/might be coming to a close...and you will all pay for it (and will get sick of the one or two riffs I know haha).

I've been trying to get her to jump to modular and synths, but her doctorate and old habits make it a challenge. I will prevail though.

Yeah Im pretty excited to get the copicat, it's a tubed version too so it's going to sound great just being in the signal chain. Ive got a Huge boner for tubed tape delay, simply the best.phantasmagorovich wrote:As far as Tape Echos, I've really been lusting for a WEM Copicat ever since I first saw one.
And that tiny Hiwatt one looks great too.

Heck yeah! Glad to see you get one. I played one years ago, but I didn't take it home. The WEMs always seemed to have an aspect of "class" that I liked about them. Is it 240v or converted (sorry, I can't find the posts...)? Also, have you ever played one of these Dynachord tape echos, UG? https://reverb.com/item/620175-dynacord ... oops-videoUncle Grandfather wrote:Yeah Im pretty excited to get the copicat, it's a tubed version too so it's going to sound great just being in the signal chain. Don't remember if I mentioned that I found a LAL Sick Pitch King so I can finally stop watching your demos with longing, UG.

It's one of the branded made for guild models and is 110v already, they must have been made for the us market...I dont really know too much about the WEM models except this was the last tubed version and some say the transister models that followed performed better regards recording/erasing. Its pretty minty looking i just hope it arrives in working order as described. I've never played a Dynachord, but the new fender I got is nice and lo-fi soupy, its going to be a bitch changing tape though as its not the best design. When it comes to recording, tape delay is still my favorite, even though I've been having fun with all of these digital delay effect pedals.lordgalvar wrote:Heck yeah! Glad to see you get one. Re: What is in the post? The thread of and for GAS!
Yea, Guild did that stuff a lot in the 60s and 70s (well, I think they all did...). I played a transistor one. I love tape delay...I think just the sound of a motor running stimulates the right part of my brain or something (I don't get along well with the digital delays I have had, except the dsd-2). The Copycat is one of those that just seemed neat for some reason...and I was never really into the echoplex. It's one of the branded made for guild models and is 110v already, they must have been made for the us market...I dont really know too much about the WEM models except this was the last tubed version and some say the transister models that followed performed better regards recording/erasing. That's awesome you found a sick pitch kingit's truly incredible sounding...where did you score it?

I got my SPK in Japan after searching sites 3-4 times a day (different times and stuff). It is going to be a while before it gets here though (around 2 weeks...unless Golden Week gets in the way). But it was worth it, because it was the pedal the lead me to all these neat pedals I have now...

Oh yeah, I do not tend to like the sound of digital delays at all as a standard delay sound, but these pt-2399 based delays from seppuku which are more effect pedals than delay pedal is what I'm talking bout, or the mid-fi clari(not) or pitch pirate.....I've also got a pt2399 based gurus echosex that does a good job of capturing the spirit of my binson echoplex, but it's still a far cry from sounding like the real deal..but it will be close enough to take on the road while the real tape units stay in the studio. In my experience these digital "analogue" emulations fall flat in direct comparison to the real deal.lordgalvar wrote:

In: Yamaha JX-25 combo amp. MIJ 80s(?) brown tolex solid state combo that does a very competent blackface/silverface Fender reverb amp impersonation for uber cheap. And the pull-boost overdrive isn't bad at all, surprisingly. Everybody seems to know the G-series combos and heads and the few B-series bass amps of that era, but these may be under the radar still.
(How the heck did I come around to collecting solid state amps? Did not see that coming.)

Solid state amps are awesome, and Yamaha ones in particular are criminally underrated, I never would have thought of it but i chanced upon a YTA-95 (which seems to still be under the radar) and it's probably my favourite amp i've ever owned? I can't decide if i prefer it to my JC120 or not because they're completely different sounding. But it cost next to nothing and nobody seems to talk about them which is weird since they're Japanese made and relatively high quality. I wanna try one of those weird thinline wedge shaped TA series amps with the trapezoidal speakers.Gone Fission wrote:In: Yamaha JX-25 combo amp. Re: What is in the post? The thread of and for GAS!
It's not just that for me (which even though they say they sound like X effect or whatever, I always just take them as they are), I just don't feel like they fit in with how I play. The Seppuku stuff is different but when I talk about "delay" and, in general, I don't really mean that or stuff like that or the ps-2...I really want to use delay though but I just don't have the ability/mindset to play well with them whereas I think of stuff like tape echos as body and character. I dunno...maybe I just got into delays too late. I played forever with just a ring mod and a distortion/fuzz pedal trying to fill "empty space" or create it and maybe delay is still somewhat foreign to me (which is probably why I get along with the Kompakt Kassette, possessed, and stuff because of mindset). Or I just suck.Uncle Grandfather wrote:Oh yeah, I do not tend to like the sound of digital delays at all as a standard delay sound, but these pt-2399 based delays from seppuku which are more effect pedals than delay pedal is what I'm talking bout, or the mid-fi clari(not) or pitch pirate.....I've also got a pt2399 based gurus echosex that does a good job of capturing the spirit of my binson echoplex, but it's still a far cry from sounding like the real deal..but it will be close enough to take on the road while the real tape units stay in the studio. It's a weird line to draw, but, in my head, stuff like the possessed/misty cave, aren't delays or even analogue/digital, they are kind of organic effects. I know it's wrong, but it's just the way I see them (versus stuff like the gigadelay, ad99, headrush, disaster transport, etc).
Damnit, basically taking the long, rambling route to say that I don't care for emulations as much as I like a tape echo or different sounding things.
tl;dr: I don't know what the hell I am talking about. haha. Playing Ramones riffs with a 7 second delay sounds dumb.
