That FSH design is my favorite so far.
Are the darker areas done by you or is a result of the etch? Either way, it's god damn fantastic.

Re: Custom Shit
Just have to say started reading this thread and I am am so impressed with these and the art that happens here. I build tones of pedals and I just slap them in plain boxes and mark um up with Sharpie LOL. For my own use I have never seen the point. If I build for someone I might paint a box and do a transfer but Its my laziness I guess. I went to Photo school then engineering school so its not for lack of ability artistically or of technical execution... I have to say that if I knew how to do this I probably would. I have seen Etch info.. Is there a great thread here or elsewhere that you know of that details the process of etch then color. I would love to try it out with some of my photo's in halftone and some of my art...LaoWiz wrote:
yjis would not be to start selling boxes here or anywhere.. I have way to much on my plate for that with my real business, and my hobbies forget it...
Any points int he rigt direction would be greatly appreciated

Yea, the darker areas are bits of the enclosure that didn't burn in as much. Nice and chunky. These particular no name 1590Ds work the best with the acid for extra nastiness. The Hammond ones seem to burn a little more clean which I don't like.psychedelicrelic wrote:That FSH design is my favorite so far.

Maybe you should send over that pick guard that's unusable for testing....

Re: Custom Shit
Probably the best info is at diystompboxes. They have an etched photo thread that has lots of different bits of info or links to info. Check that out and hit me up with questions. I do mostly reverse etches which burns the majority of the box. Painting is pretty simple, after etching you just wetsand with a block sander carefully and it sands the raised parts that are not etched. I'll try to forward you some links in a bit.aegert wrote:Just have to say started reading this thread and I am am so impressed with these and the art that happens here. Re: Custom Shit
These days I wetsand with 100 then 240 grit to get the box flat.aegert wrote:Thanks. I found something that looks promising
I also use ferric chloride from radio shack. It's pricy but I can walk to RS and that acid has worked the best for me. I've tried other brands but the RS brand eats up the enclosure more which suits my style. Acidmagic is another type of acid that work well for getting cleaner etches. Definitely get some decent reusable gloves and a fancy vapor respirator. Nast nasty fumes. I also have been letting my acid sit on top of the oven at 200 degree just to warm it up a bit. I pour it in the box face up and use a chip brush to agitate.
Definitely, research a good transfer paper. Needs to be inkjet photo paper printed with a laser printer. There was some super cheap magic transfer photo paper that is no longer available. I've been using old Epson glossy paper leftover but am almost out. Gotta find some new stuff. If love to see your work. Etching is super fun!
