As entertaining as it is to imagine he got in to blow it for Clinton (which is what he's doing, intentionally or not), I think he just got in over his head, didn't expect to win the primary, and is now barreling out of control. I totally agree that everything he says makes sense in a way. It's not necessarily smart or defensible. But there is a certain transparency and patterns to how he acts.

On PC: are we talking about actively ruining someone's career over some comments that may have been misinterpreted/taken out of context, or are we talking about politely asking granny not to use the n word?

Snips bb just pick one... we're being pedants.

Jwar I think Nate Silver/538 is a pretty reliable polling breakdown, esp. since dude basically got his job correctly calling the 2008 election (like all of it).

I saw someone post screen caps of Click-Bait headlines, but using a Chrome Filter that replaced "Political Correctness" with "Treating People With Respect" and it was kind of amazing to see.

Thanks for coming through, DoSsy bb.

Also "an often clumsy negotiation towards a kind of formally inclusive language" is a better definition than many i've seen.

Salon, mic, huffpo, vice, vox...more?

Perusing their bylines and mission statements I don't see "politically correct" anywhere in there, just a list of websites you don't agree with.

And that's not to say they do or don't fall under the umbrella, just that -- again -- it's a pejorative term, like the aforementioned "SJW". Something people typically use to marginalize the idea behind it.

Vice? The Magazine that is regularly called out for its racism and transphobia? That was started by a hard right conservative/fundamentalist who writes essays about his hatred for women?

I don't want to come across pedantic, but again, those different publications hardly represent a monolithic and uniform agenda. More accurately they just represent a wide variety of liberal and leftist (and post-left) ideas and beliefs that would often have as many bones to pick with each other as they would most other beliefs/agendas. But i refuse to see Vice as anything other than the ugly visage of ironic detachment and philosophical apathy.

So what's the new definition of respect where practice actually aligns with the theory?
Because I'm wondering where the respect was for Matt Taylor when self-appointed PC cops spoiled the achievement of a lifetime.
His tacky bowling shirt had some scantily clad cartoon women on it. HE MUST BE TAUGHT A LESSON!
But that random 400lb guy gaining 15 seconds of social media fame for wearing the FUCK WHITE PEOPLE suit...no complaints from those same PC cops.

Respect  :whateva:

Mr aloha shirt still has his job, and maybe also a new understanding that female-as-decoration isn't the most professional fashion choice. Nobody forced him at gunpoint to cry on TV. The "pc police" may tweet at you but the actual police will just bash your skull with their hate sticks. It's not the same thing.

I really don't understand this election at all.
Before this election, including a politician's family into the debate was a surefire way to destroy your political (or business, too, I suppose) career.
Now it just adds to it, I guess.
