It's definitely worth it to spend a bit more money on a soldering station. My first two pencil irons burnt out before I even got a pedal working. Once I got a station (only $30 mind you) everything became so much easier and more efficient. Plus it will save you money in the long run.

dudes. Get one. FOR REAL. Once you use an actual, professional soldering station you'll be dumbfounded as to why you had never used one before. It is AMAZING. I use a Weller WES51 and it's awesome, have had great success with a Weller WTCPT as well. GET. ONE. Those 'shack one's are one-time throwaways as far as I'm concerned. Check out ebay for used ones. And yeah, there are definitely other ones that are also top-notch and cheaper. DO IT.

yeah. i have a cheapo station, it's a'ight, but i only do cables occasionally. i've borrowed my dad's Big Boy station a few times, HUGE difference.
