Strymon drops its hat into the Uni-Vibe realm. My first reaction: cue the #dadrock jokes.

https://www.strymon.net/product/ultraviolet/

It's cool that they actually showcased some soundscape/space rock stuff in this clip. Personally, that's the only way I ever use Uni-Vibe types of pedals. Although, I do shudder at the thought of the day some 20-year old hears Krautrock for the first time and starts comparing it to his favorite worship guitarist.

Considering they already make the Lex and a phaser, this one seemed a bit odd. My real frustration, though, is the Timeline still isn't available as a plugin, and they dropped this and the Deco plugin first. I wonder if that will be a '24 release, or if they'll drop a V2 Timeline with updated algorithms first.

You can have your pedals pre-burned. No disassembly required. (thanks Mac DeMarco)

Has anyone checked out the Abacus? This seems like a souped-up Distortion+ with better packaging.

Also, who knew that DLS was still around? I had no idea they were still active.

I love that abacus. I have no need for it, but that’s rad as hell

not buying into anything that's the equivalent of modern car audio volume controls where there's a limited number of steps with no wiggle room. 10% adjustment variation is bullshit.

Is turning on switches 2, 5, and 7 different than turning on 1, 2, and 3?

apparently the top row is volume and the bottom row is gain. i'm sorry, but i'm not converting visual symbols into numbers just so i can turn the damn pedal up.

Yeah, this pedal would be annoying to use from a practicality standpoint, but how great would it look on instagram!

I think the flipswitches look fun, but it definitely is not a practical pedal.

one of my basic criteria for pedals is that i can operate them without having to do much thinking. i would literally be looking at this thing and going "one...plus one...plus four...". it is a great aesthetic, though.

OMG I wanna flick those switches so bad. Do they all do something or is it more to mess with me?

from the product page on their site:
The top row of switches across is the gain controls. The second row is the volume controls.

The value of each switch matches the "abacus beads" on the graphic...4, 2, 2, 1, 1 which all add up to 10. Turning them all on is the equivalent to turning a typical pot up to 10. You can then select any combination of switches on the gain and volume rows that can add up to almost any setting you would have on a potentiometer from every other pedal.
"almost" doing some heavy lifting in that sentence.

I have a similar rule that I call “the drunk test”. If I can’t operate it after a few drinks, then there’s no way I can have fun operating it after a long day at work.
