Tales From Topographic Oceans is a flawed masterpiece, man.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?

something something IMPORTANT something something PROFOUND
Ugh HH is weak. Fake emo, the worst phase of Victory Records shite.
Never got the appeal. Second-rate, faux-angstier Taking Back Sunday.

OMG I barely have the energy to debate Sufjan Stevens further.

"Shitty and unessential."

Like, that's your deal (music is subjective, etc.)

But that dude has made some of the most important and beloved music of the last decade.

Saying you don't like Sufjan is one thing but saying you can't respect him is borderline comical.

He has achieved more as musician than all of ILF's pet faves combined.

Important and beloved are also subjective. I don't know one single person that likes Sufjan stevens.

You never named a band that does the blood brothers better than the blood brothers.

If you say fear before I will reach through this monitor and smack you silly.

There is some first-rate douche baggery in this thread.

While we're taking shit, might I mention: 1. Refused sucks now. Still great live, but that record is terrible. 2. Hum and Failure reunions are a joke. They were both third-tier crap a hundred years ago. Now it's just sad to see them attempting to rewrite history for kids that don't know any better. 3. Faith No More has always been a punchline.

Ahh...that's better.

Hahaha I won't then.

No I was gonna say like The Locust, Spazz, bands D.o.S. was mentioning earlier, come to think of it.

Now that I'm making the argument I suppose those bands were from a different generation. I withdraw comment.

I don't know one single person who does NOT like Sufjan Stevens.

Do you know his music or just jumping on D.o.S. bandwagon?

You might be pretty pleasantly surprised.

I confess, while Mike Patton is obviously a phenomenal vocalist, I never, ever thought they were a good band. They sound like like a joke to me. Like they're not even trying to make good music...? I'll have to revisit. I mostly know Patton through his work with John Zorn

1- The Locust and The Blood Brothers are from the same era and seemed to play in the same circles. They are equally talented but very different.

2- Every single person you know likes Sufjan Stevens? Your boss? Your grandma? The bus driver?

3- I have heard his music, but i didn't like it enough to absorb a lot of it.

But man, this Refused album fucking sucks.

Yes. This Refused album fucking sucks. It sucks big fucking donkey dick. When it is finished the donkey cums... just everywhere.

Re: Sufjan.

Get the album Seven Swans, or the new one Carrie and Lowell (good write-up here that I generally agree with). Go for a walk somewhere beautiful with a pair of headphones you like. See how much you can absorb. It is definitely music for headphones. He mixed it in headphones and it's music for listening to alone... without distractions... so you can get to know it like a friend.

If you don't like it then, okay.

See? You guys criticize me for loving all these bands but ILFers love certain bands just as much, but they're just different bands.

Like Blood Brothers. Before I joined this forum a few months back, I hadn't seen a reference to that band since like 2008.

Because in the outside world, no one remembers that they exist LOL

There are only like 2 of us that like them. I'm probably the only one still making references to them.

The one reunion I didn't hear anything bad about. And they didn't over stay their welcome.

Wish they had played somewhere within 500 miles of me though
