Still, I stand by my contention that if the only thing that you can critique about a movie or book or album or whatever is that "its boring", then your opinion is essentially worthless.

but shit like that? "your opinion is essentially worthless"? when someone responds to someone else voicing their opinion in a way they don't agree with like that it makes me think they're pretentious douches that are more interested in seeming intelligent than having a conversation.

i don't really care if it comes across lowbrow or uninformed or "worthless". some movies are fucking boring. i'm not going to invest the time to describe why something sucks in most cases if the creator didn't put enough effort into make it interesting at some level.

and i LIKE silly bad movies that have a scene or two of awesome. make me remember or being impressed by SOMETHING. and Citizen Kane never did that for me. i appreciate the artistry for it's time but it's a boring movie.

but what if a movie WAS boring? KickAss 2 was a shit movie because it was boring. sure you can be more specific and say that instead of making a parody or deconstruction of a Superhero movie like the first one they forgot and made a shitty uninteresting superhero movie... but it was just written where all the humor and characters and dialogue was flat and.... boring.

In short, it's just like the first mowie.

you seem to confuse "lowbrow" with "meaningless". You can have lowbrow tastes. You can like lowbrow movies. I don't care what you like or don't like. But "it's boring" tells me nothing. There's no conversation there. Might as well just type "movie bad".

I tend to equate people who doen't like things aesthetically but can't explain it with the sort of attitudes that lead to censorship and xenophobia. that's just silly. if i talk to something i care about or am engaged with? sure. i'll be a gerbose motherfucker and wax poetic about all the awesome or bad. but something i don't care about? meh. i WATCHED the damn movie. that means i opened myself up to anything interesting they have to say. if i didn't find anything worth remembering or didn't care then.... it's a boring movie.

i don't care about cars. if someone wants to tell me how awesome the cam shaft flangleneer they installed lets them rev to 2 quintillion lbs of torque when they're Tokyo Drifting? i have no interest in that. i don't have anything to bring to the conversation. and i wouldn't be a dismissive prick but.... it's a subject that doesn't interest me. same with a poorly put together movie. it's just BORING.

Monsters (the 2010 British 'un) was neaaaaaat. very different, smaller take on how something like that would affect people. i love movies that explain things subtly. without having a character point at something and scream out the thing they just showed you.
