Dirt and flange go together like pizza and beer!

Flanger with random waveform is one of my favorite sounds.

The Spin is really awesome at time based stuff.. the flanger patch I made this weekend is really good sounding, I like it a lot. There's a couple ways it can go as far as controlling the effect goes.. at first I set it up with gain (they all have gain, that one goes without saying), rate, and feedback. The rate control is neat, I made it so that it goes crazy slow as you turn it down and then right at the bottom at 0, it stops the LFO and freezes it so you get the comb filter effect. If you want a different comb sound you just turn it up a bit and let it sweep to the sound you want then quickly turn it down to freeze it.

So at first I used the remaining control knob as a feedback pot. Turn it down for negative feedback, up for positive feedback, nearly resonant enough to oscillate at the extremes, quite cool sounding although more noticeable when using the pedal clean/lowish gain.

Then I thought it would be more powerful/useful to have a wet level control rather than feedback, since with high gain the feedback polarity is much less important, they both take on the aggressive sweep sound anyway. I figured it's more powerful to be able to control how much of that flanger sound you hear mixed with the dry signal, so as you're palm muting you can have a touch of flange or a ton of flange. I imagine that through the years I'll set all the patches up with changes like that and then people can decide their favourite controls.

And finally, I found an example of reverse reverb written by a genius at Malekko. I haven't tried it yet, I don't know if I'd be allowed to use it or run with it, but I'll look into for yous guys...

All of that seems super bad ass. I think the wet would be more useful than the feedback as well.

...and this is making me really want to dive into the spin chip

Order that dev kit, Jeromy! Best 100 bucks you'll ever spend! The power of the Spin chip is pretty impressive.. and the sound quality is too... it's a really neat way to work also, a different way of thinking than analog electronics.

This the one?...http://spinsemi.com/products.html
How involved/difficult is the programming or coming up with patches? Is it an alien language of zeros and ones or a little more straight forward than that?
