Found that to be really weird, don't really care if it's faux-witchraft w/e, I didn't like it at all. Can you tell me what's so alluring about it?

behndy wrote:sweet. always wanted to read the book. just keep forgetting about it. the movie is very, VERY good. but it's the Cohen Brothers...... dunno if they know HOW to make a bad movie. curious to hear what you think of it, one of the things i've always liked about the Cohenians is how respectful they seem of the properties they work with.

Of course you know I have to say that the book was better. They did do a pretty good job of translating it into the movie format. Chigurh in the movie is exactly how I imagined him to look and act like, that guy was great. Tommy Lee Jones as the sheriff, I kinda felt was more like watching Tommy Lee Jones than his character. You lose all of the monologues that he had in the book, as well as all of his backstory and a lot of interactions he has with other characters.
A couple of events were different or totally left out, but it comes with the territory. I thought Moss's wife was kinda weak in the movie. I think her grandmother had the weakest actor of all, lulz. Oh well.
The thing that bugged me most of all was
NSFW: show
the part where Moss meets that chick at the motel, then like five seconds later they're both fucking dead. It's different in the book, you get to see more of her character and their interaction...although they both do die pretty suddenly, in the movie it's just like "well then".

I don't want to tear into it or anything, it was still a very good movie and for the most part it was true to the book. I just didn't get the same connection with it.
I thought the camera work was great and the environments they shot in were super purty. Chigurh is badass as fuck, you HAVE to be a badass to pull off a bowl cut and cowboy boots. And red pants. Fuck yeah.

interesting. i'll get around to reading the book someday.

the Thing You Hide And Speak Of...... i dunno if that's how it came across in the book, but for me it was just..........

NSFW: show
how the real world works. being the hero gets you killed, the good guys don't always win, bad guys get away with little to no come-up-ance.

Oh yeah, definitely. It came through like that in both formats, but I think due to the nature of it being a movie, it felt like a very rapid-fire series of events. Being able to see it made it feel very fast in comparison to having to read through all of it.
I think I'm gonna watch it again tomorrow.

I hope they make a movie of Blood Meridian. It could be really great.

I found it a little more difficult to read, but it's really great. I think you guys would like it, since you like No Country for Old Men.

Out of the three Cormac McCarthy novels I've read, Blood Meridian is my favorite. It might be my favorite book.
No Country for Old Men was definitely the easiest to get into though.

Yep, The Road. I loved how bleak The Road was throughout most of it.
