- Edit, to give you an idea, That cab has the full potential to be louder than my entire band. At practice, I've run just that against a 5150 through a 4x12, and an orange thunderverb 200 through a 4x12 and still kept up .

So.... would two giant killers be complete and utter overkill?

I'm running a Boogie Mark V, btw: 6L6 quad conservatively rated at 90w on the highest power setting.

People may look at you funny when you bring them in. They would stop the second you start playing.
:omg:

Current amp setup at the moment.

It's an old Bogen Challenger PA (honestly sounds amazing), 60s Traynor YBA-1, VHT 2x12 w/ vintage 30s, and a 1976(?) Ampeg VT-22.
The VT-22 is the newest one for me. It was also only $400. Yes.
The distortion side is on the fritz though, but whatevzz.

My main amp right now is the VT-22, and I usually run it with the VHT cab. The Vintage 30s and old Altec speakers honestly work so perfectly together. That and my Turbo Rat are great.

I'm a ways off from having new cab money, but find myself mighty intrigued. I'd e-mail Mr. Gentry myself, but I hate asking for quotes when I don't have cash on hand.

That's My Cab! hahaha.

sam adams wrote:The HEX Giant Killer is a gnarly ported 1x12 cab that he'll usually put super efficient high wattage speakers in. I think he has a vintage EV in his own. A dude I know got one with a Celestion Sidewinder. I've considered getting one with an Eminence Swamp Thang or Tonker, since they're 150w handling and 103db sensitivity. He quoted me roughly $400. They're a small operation so I'm not sure if that's a buddy deal or if they have much room to discount.

With the right speaker, it's a 1x12 the size and sound of a 2x12.

He uses a ton of gear with Eagle Twin obviously. But I recorded a couple Form Of Rocket sets where Gentry played his prototype Model T clone through just one GK. Peter used a Twin Reverb combo with an extension Hex 2x12. Curtis used an Aims head with that Hex 2x15 and Ben had a Sunn 300T into that Hex Fat810. The GK kept up.

I'm the dude with the sidewinder GK. I actually contacted them solely based on 1)the gear porn Sam posts from them and 2) I love me some eagle twin.
It is without a doubt the loudest cab I have ever played or seen. I ABY one amp into an emperor 4x12, and one amp into just the giant killer. It is Ear-splittingly, face-meltingly loud. My 4x12s are 4 ft tall, and when the giant killer sits on top of it, it is just about right at my face height. Jesus. I love it.

Also, the 400 dollar quote is just about what I paid, If you get speakers that he doesn;t have on hand, he has to special order and those costs get added. Gentry was awesome to deal with. I highly recommend. :thumb:

I can co-sign this. Gentry won the bid to build my rig as soon as the egc comes. Awesome dude to deal with and the prices are down to earth as fuck. As soon as my EGC comes im ordering a 4x12 and a giant killer (though maybe with a 15 instead of a 12) Im strongly considering an amp as well, what can you guys who have actually seen/ played them in person tell me?

I'm pretty sure they'll do a GK as a 1x15. Not sure what he's charging for the heads. I've heard him play them in person. If you know you like the vintage Sunn Model T sound, that's what it's a clone of.

My Dunwich Annunaki is almost done!!!!!! This is just the back panel (the uncut space on the left is where a fan will be going) sooo freaking excited, anyone considering a Dunwich this is the quality, craftsmanship, and customer service updates you can expect. I highly recommend Nick and his work to the highest degree.
