I had to stop by the grocery store earlier, I was in the mood for pasta tonight but they were all out. I didn't actually look to confirm, I could tell by a woman throwing a shitfit at a grocery store employee over it. I know things are crazy right now but how are folks okay with treating a worker like that?

One of our favorite breakfast places opened back up at 25% capacity last weekend. My wife wanted to do a takeout order. They were so busy they shut down online orders, but you could go in and place one. It took about 45 minutes. It was Mother's Day. It was the first weekend people had been "allowed" to go out to restaurants and shops. And still, there was some shithead yelling at the hostesses because it was taking so long to get a to-go order on Mother's Day during prime brunch hours... Like, WTF did you really expect to happen? No one would be out and you'd get your order in 10 minutes? Wipe off your belly-button so you can see a little better and have some foresight.

OK. I got to ask. What does that expression mean? Wipe off your belly button so you can see? Is it because they are dirty? I looked it up because it made me laugh so hard but my searches didn't reveal any real truths. LOL

I saw some video of a woman getting into a fucking physical altercation with Red Lobster staff because her food was taking so long on Mother’s Day! What the fuck is wrong with people. She’s fucking pulling their hair and shit!!

I have no idea either but it's making me giggle.

And yeah, people are bizarre and horrible sometimes. Who gets into a fight over a slow meal?

Since the government eased on restrictions around here, people have become more outgoing again and criticism on the government actions is rising - "complete overreaction" , "the measures taken were completely out of proportion" , "think of all the small businesses that had to suffer" ,etc... which was.. well.. expected, but I honestly thought people would be more considerate or at least a bit more calm... I guess I just expect too much from humanity in general :idk:
While many people are now pushing to speed up the process of reopening everything, my girlfriends mother told some pretty horrible stories... she works as a nurse in a hospital specializing in eating disorders, but they are now also caring for patients recovering from the COVID-19 disease. Basically they get the patients that are too sick to be sent home but too healthy to stay in hospital care. There are people who suffered brain damage because the virus attacked their lungs so badly they didn't get enough oxygen... some cancer patients that are now too weak to receive chemotherapy or get radiation treatment, so while they are healing from the virus, the cancer is growing and spreading.

I heard Trump signed some Executive Order here to force the phases to be done away with in some way. I don't really understand. I'm torn too.

It's real, it's killed and is killing still a LOT of people. How do we stay closed longer than we have though going forward? Financially I mean. That's the thing I don't understand and it scares me. I don't know if this is over (science tells me it's not) and when it hits again, what's going to happen? Am I going to die? Are my parents going to die? Friends? More family? For what? All because people cannot wear a fucking mask for a few months to try to slow shit down. People are that selfish that they don't care about anyone but themselves? That's actually real?

Yesterday my wife had to go back to work. Her company gave her half a days notice along with all the others. Despite anything else, doesn't matter. I cried my eyes out when she left. Then I did it about 4 more times through out the day, then I cried again this morning. I can't handle this shit man. I'm scared and I hate being fearful. I hate being helpless.

Shit Jwar, hang in there...
I think the worst part in this whole mess (at least for me) is to be dependent on other peoples common sense. If you don't wear your mask correctly and get the virus onto something in the supermarket that I buy and consume at home, I get infected. So the hardest part for me is to rely on other people to keep some level of hygiene standard up, especially because we all know how dumb and fucking filthy the "common man" is...

i've had it easier than a lot of you folks...nobody i know has died (though several people from the UK on The Mighty Fall FB group have been through it) and i've been working from home since the second week in March, with no plans for the offices to populate for the foreseeable future. i could complain about certain aspects of the company, but the owner is a genuine Good Guy; it's a point of pride that he's never laid anyone off, and this is a multi-million-a year operation. so that's been OK. but it's really getting to me...my sweetie and her sister (with whom she resides) are both immune-compromised, so i've been forced into an almost total lockdown (which is getting stretched lately since i started smoking cigarettes again as a coping mechanism). it's basically been home, car, or Becky's. this city is surrounded by rural areas with rolling wooded hills and the Blue Ridge Mountains like 40 miles away, so i have been doing some recreational driving.

i can't even talk about the government, which has risen to Hermann Goering-esque levels of corruption, ridiculousness, and pure evil.

about two weeks ago i started losing track of what day it is. but in the current situation it doesn't even matter.

I keep getting hit with intense waves of wanting to run up all of my credit and take out loans for stuff because "lol fuck it we're all dead and nothing is ever gonna change"
"also i want some more plants"

edit: I bought $130 worth of plants.

“If social distancing measures are effective, in retrospect they will have seemed excessive” - quote I saw when all this was just getting started. It’s kind of like proving a negative or something- “social distancing will prevent a Martian invasion”. How do you know it worked? “Have you seen any Martian invaders?”. In this way, there is no explanation that will satisfy people who opposed social distancing. And lockdowns were only necessary because people proved that they could not be responsible to take social distancing measures seriously.

Also folks may be interested to hear that the U.S. CDC just put out a statement that infections from surface contamination are basically impossible for the general public, if normal measures (don’t touch your face, wash your hands when you get home etc) are taken. It’s a respiratory disease transmitted from direct contact with a person. A lot of people are stressed out that the virus can be anywhere - and while that’s theoretically true, you’d have to touch a freshly infected surface and then rub your eye, pick your nose etc. If you wear a mask and avoid being near other people, and avoid being in enclosed spaces for extended amounts of time, you are probably safe (time of exposure and ‘dose amount’ are factors - a single coronavirus particle getting through your mask isn’t enough to infect a person, you need to get a solid dose).

Don’t get me wrong — after I bring the mail inside, I wash my hands. When I get a package, I open it up, then I wash my hands. It’s probably a good policy anyway - mail and delivery trucks are dirty, etc. Same with groceries: I wash my hands after shopping. But I don’t disinfect my cereal boxes.

I just mean to say that the overwhelming majority of transmissions are from someone’s lungs to another person’s lungs.
