Yeah; considering I'm used to paying 5 string bass prices for a packet of strings (at least $60); I think anything under $25 for a 6 string guitar set to be a bargain. Not sure if that's how it will shake out for a custom Bass VI set from CKS,...but I'm in heaven that off the shelf guitar string packs are relatively inexpensive.

Yeah, the string prices are a really pleasant surprise. Initially, when I realized a custom set was required, I was prepared to drop like $50-60 on a single set if I was lucky. I didn't wanna but figured there was no way around it. Then last night I ordered 2 spare sets from LaBella (25-106) and the total came to like $44 with shipping included. Crazy.

Yeah. Save the rent money and invest in a Bass VI.

So do you Bass VI gais find yourselves playing these things like a bass or like a guitar? Most of the vids/demos I'm seeing; it would seem that everyone who is a guitarist, picks these up and instantly starts playing basslines on it. I don't take issue with that, I feel like the is the essence of what was intended when these were originally conceived....it's just that...As bass is the instrument I've been playing the longest and am the most experienced at, I feel like I'd find myself treating these more like a guitar. Playing low and heavy chords through sweaty amps and heavy walls of fuzz.

Are these just not designed for that sort of treatment? Too Low? Too Muddy?

Perhaps I'm more of a baritone guy as opposed to a Bass VI guy,...but I'd still love to have a shot at one of these.

I play my ultra vi more like a guitar. I did a bunch of FuzzHugger demos with it. Problem is I don't have any bass amps...

I think even rolling with one of these through a decently powered guitar amp pushing a bass cab would suffice.

I could see myself picking one of these up and tuning it bari style B-b/A-a prior to hitting that octave down from Spanish Tuning E.

30" scale length may be a bit uncomfy for chording. 27" might be a little more appropriate.

I guess,...since I have two basses (a 4 and a 5 string) I wonder if a Bass VI is justifiable since what I'm trying to accomplish are lower tunings on guitar and matching octave down tunings on bass.

I'm planning on getting one and I'll probably play it much more like a guitar, I really want something for very low tuned chords (and brootz riffage). I don't see myself using it to play basslines because I doubt it will have the power and punch of a real bass, and I love playing bass.

Historically I play one more like a guitar than a bass, but my hands are huge (I'm 6'8") and it was never an issue on the vintage ones or the MIJs.

Never had one around fulltime to play with though.

Whether it has the power and punch of a real bass depends on settings, how you play, and what you do with it - it is a real bass, just one with options.

I play my Jaguar Baritone Custom (tuned like a Bass VI) more like a guitar. I do find first position chording on it to be a little flubby though for the chords that rely heavily on the E and A strings, so E and G chords in the first position are kinda lifeless. I haven't tried restringing with heavier strings yet though. Seems like that would tighten it up some.

I was considering selling my bassman, but I'm starting to think it would be the perfect amp for one of these. Parents want to try to nab me one for Christmas, so I hope to get it ordered when I'm back in town this month. I'm so spoiled.
